DMX Hookup

Using an ION with 84 Dimmers. Have just put in DMX Splitters & Line for same. Would like to leave existing line to the Dimmer Rack alone & run the other Universe with LEDs, Movers, etc. Not having any luck so far. Have a 7 -15 ch LED setup alongside the console, so accessing the fixture not a problem.

since the ION doesn't have the The DMX ports labelled as Universe 1 or 2, all I"ve been able to determine there is that Universe 2 is full??? ( Based on console response when asked for available addresses in Univ-2).

All input welcome.

Also, how does one put a Cue on the wheel without entering every Ch in the Cue.

 Cheers,

 Harry

  • an ion has dmx ports that are labelled DMX 1 and DMX 2. they default to universes 1 and 2. to make sure this hasn't been changed, go to the shell (Displays > Browser > Exit) and there to Settings > Local I/O. at the top you should see the dmx starting addresses of both ports, by default those are 1 and 513.

when in patch, select a channel and then in the CIA you should see tiles with numbers starting at 1. those are the universes. click on 2. left of it you see tiny numbers 513 to 1024. do they have a black or grey background? each number that is black is empty.

have you made sure, that you have the correct personality and mode for your LED?

and last but not least: what do you mean with Cue on the wheel? and how do you want to get channels into cues without entering them?

  • Have rechecked the "Shell". All in order there.

     Universe1 has 1 - 84 used(House Dimmers), the rest is empty

Universe 2 has 513 - 625 empty, the rest used. Why that would be We don't know.

Perhaps a previous attempt to patch something( which has only been done a couple of times to get RBG on 4 or 5 simple  LED units.

We did the test lamp to fire on a single channel, but white only. No individual stuff. It's an ETC Lustre in RBG +7 mode.

  • What is the fixture addressed to, and what address is the fixture patched to on the Ion?
