2.2 getting direct selects in CIA and display issue

Putting this out to the collective. How do you go about getting direct selects in the CIA with the new display interface. We use this often and then use the display button to toggle between the CIA and the DS. As well the top of the CIA gets chopped off (with the file name and any macro entry is trimmed) with the use of the button overlays on the EOS.

Cheers,

Andrew

  • I think it's a "thin edge of the wedge" kind of request. I used to use the CIA for the ML control on Ion and miss it. It reminds me of a song that was used in a musical revue we did a few years back "You'll Get Used To It".

Perhaps a better long term solution is to introduce the concept of an ephemeral frame that can float over any display and pop into existence on demand. We can have a great debate over what "on demand" looks like. Some of "on demand" ought to be coming with Magic Sheet navigation improvements that were discussed during the 2.2 beta, but this sort of thing shouldn't be limited to Magic Sheets and has to work on all the consoles.

  • Easy, I never used DS's in the CIA area and since Magic Sheets, rarely use DS's at all.

As well, 2.2 gives you much more refined control over what's displayed, between Worksheets, Frames and Snapshots, as well as the 25+ function in DS's, thus I never go that route.

    Hi Andrew,

Since the Virtual Controls went away, I can offer a workaround for you -

If you can get by without the physical DS module in the top of the right internal display (for now) you can create the same layout by creating a 2 Row Layout within your new Virtual Workspace.

In each row, select the DS Controls Option.

Then click the 1x/2x button in each Layout row and it will reduce the groups of 5x5 tiles down to 1 row of 2.

You will notice that when you expand the CIA, it does squeeze the two rows down, but restores them when you close it again.

Currently if you try to put a physical DS Module into the top right section of Eos, the app does not move the tab down, like the left side does and Eos doesn't remember its last state when you remove the module.  SCR 27713 has been written up to address this.

Also, SCR 27717 was written up to address the show file text and macro information getting cut off.

    Thanks!

  • Funny, I was just going to ask about ML Controls and here is a similar post. I really liked and used often the ML in the CIA popping up automatically when an appropriate fixture was selected or just hitting the Browser to pop it up when they are selected. Yes, I do use the MS for almost everything now and I personally never use DS any longer, but the ML controls is still a valuable thing for me so I don't have to have so many things on the MS; different gobos for different fixtures, different effects for different fixtures, different strobes for different fixtures, etc. so I am very used to using the ML controls that way. Now I just have them as a tab which I click on when I am working with an appropriate fixture but sure will miss the auto pop up feature.

This is a very new version so open to suggestions.

AND when I installed 2.2 I was afraid it would completely change how things appeared on the screens in my shows forcing me to have to learn the new ways quickly. Well, Thank You ETC for whatever you did. When I installed 2.2 and opened a show file everything still came up the same for the most part and now I can gradually learn the new ways. Happy, Happy, Happy.

  • I haven't pulled down 2.2 yet - it sounds like ML Controls is gone?  That's kind of unfortunate, is there anything to take its place?  I really liked using it to control VMS content and effects, for using V*L timing channels, and a few other things.  Is all that just on the encoders now?

  • Hi Jason,

ML Controls is very much still in the software.

v2.2 took all of the existing modules previously listed in the 'Virtual Controls' menu of the Browser and made them accessible as a Tab when creating a new frame in layout or hitting the "+" symbol adjacent to the tabs list on each frame.

It was possible in pre-v.2.2 software to 'star' ML Controls as a 'favorite' so when Displays was pressed, ML Controls would immediately pop up in the CIA.  Since ML Controls can no longer be opened in the CIA (but can be opened as a Tab), you can no longer mark it as a favorite.

  • I noticed that if you have an older file with a snapshot that had the direct selects in the CIA, that they will still appear there under 2.2 if you recall that snapshot.  However, the minute you touch the "star" symbol and deselect it as your favourite, it is gone for good.

  • I would very much like to have the star for a display over the CIA restored. I find it very useful. The workspace buttons at the top of the screen are a bit too small for me. I must click them with my mouse. This is frustrating as I hardly ever use one. While I am a fan of Magic Sheets, I still use Direct Selects. In 2.2, the overall size of the Direct Selects has shrunk. On a large screen having the option to expand them by 25 is nice. Also handy if I want 100 DS of same type on a screen. However, I typically use four types (Presets, Focus Palettes, Color Palettes, Beam Palettes) on one screen. On ION these are on a tab behind the PSD. I cannot get these to be as large as they were in the previous software versions.
  • maybe just like in the frames where we now have a + to get to the New Tab Managment and its icons, we could have a + in the CIA where we just get the Controls part of those icons and then could open and favorite them...
