Remotely powering on ION

Hello,

I am interested in knowing more about the ability to remotely power up or shut down an Ion using an RVI or RPU that is connected via ethernet. There is an old post on this forum from over 5 years ago where somebody mentioned the possibility of using a Wake on LAN program to power on an Ion. Unfortunately this required a separate PC on the network to carry out the operation, and there was also no way to remotely power off the console. There was mention that ETC was going to implement this in an update - but that comment was made several years ago and I have not been able to find any other information about it.

I am wondering if anything has changed, if it is now possible to remotely power on or shut down an Ion using an RPU or RVI, and if so, how can that be done.

Thank you for your help.

  • Thanks for the Wiki article. It does look like the Ion I am using has a BCM motherboard. I changed all the settings but the Ion is still not responding to the remote power on. On the plus side, the ethernet port is now illuminated when shutdown. My venue has a second Ion that was purchased at the same time as the first, and I will try this process on it to see if I can get it to respond to the remote power on. Otherwise I may need to get in touch with tech support about that BIOS upgrade.
  • The link to the internal wiki article has been removed.

While we are happy to help enable Wake-on-LAN settings to make use of the remote power on/off features, we prefer that users do not make changes in their BIOS without being in direct contact with ETC Support.

This is to minimize the potential for accidentally changing the wrong setting and so that we know when changes are being made to better improve process for future shipping product.
