I encountered this problem previously on LEDs - blue / white chase going through green, for example - to avoid it I re-call the effect specifying only RGB parameters on the command line: [201] [Thru] [269] {Red} {Green} {Blue} [Effect] [19] (or something similar :)
Just running it on RGB or CMY work should. The problem is that if the effect includes HS, it fades through HS space and it is not taking the shortest path on the Hue value (fading through 360 to 0). If you open the color picker and select one of the channels, it's easy to see that it's not taking the shortest path. This is a defect, and will be fixed.
