Simple Multipart Patch Problem???

I've run into this simple problem a few times now.

Imagine this scenario:

I want to patch a 2K spacelight with two non-consecutive dimmer numbers, and still treat the fixture as a multi intensity fixture.

Problems:  I tried copying the profile and editing the dmx channels of intensity 2 to be non consecutive.  (that results in a patch of, say, dimmers 1-3.  I only want to use 1 & 3.  Not 2)

I tried just making a basic two part channel, with two dimmers.  But the channel operates both dimmer parts at the same time. (of course.)

If you understand this problem, and have a solution, please respond.  I'd appreciate it.

  • BTW, a fellow EOS programmer found a decent solution:
    Create two fixtures.
Fixture1 uses parameter Intensity 1 (which creates a "master intensity")
Fixture2 uses parameter Amber (which also creates a "master intensity")

Then make a 2 part channel. Assign Fixture1 to Part 1, at DMX 1. Assign Fixture 2 to Part 2, at DMX 3.

This way, using a color parameter as the DMX 3 part, the console will allow a non consecutive DMX number, and relinquish control of DMX 2 for other use.

The only two problems with this workaround are thus: you must patch all your like fixtures in this manner to be able to manipulate a group of them at the same time. AND, you must realize that your "Amber" parameter is actually controlling Intensity 2. (just a bit lamo.)

BTW, this solution came from the great, Art Whitehead, a fellow IATSE 728 Programmer in LA.
