Ion DVI splitter

We have two DVI monitors on order and was just looking at the console specs online (I have to look at something while I'm waiting!) but only see one DVI port on the back that reads "Dual DVI Display".  Then the specs mention something about a splitter.  Does this come with the console or do we need to order it separately?

Just curious, but why only one port?

Thanks,

Pat

  • There should have been shipped with your console a small Y-adapter cable that split off to two DVI connectors. Its white and black. Check your packaging again. If not, contact your dealer about getting a replacement.
  • I am the House Electrician for an Arts School. Our ION moves around a lot and I am worried that the DVI splitter will get broken or lost. Is there a resource for getting additional cables? Or do I just get one through my rep/the factory? Or can I make one?
  • Our Ion has already come back to us with a trashed splitter cable so we need to buy a new one (the console was put back in its case with the splitter cable still attached...) It's definitely not a warranty issue, so we're just looking for an off-the-shelf replacement.

From what I can tell the cable is a DMS-59 male to 2 DVI-I female splitter cable, and what I've found on Google, PNY part number CALI0097 seems to be a good match? Although these seem readily available in the US/Canada, I'm struggling to find any online availability (in stock) in the UK. I can source the equivalent Molex part (88768-5300) from RS at a good price, but as a special order item it will take a few days to arrive - which will be fine if there's nothing more readily available over here.

  • Currently we are touring with the Ion and our experience is that after 3,5 weeks the connector of our DVI splitter cable is slowly falling appart. Extencive moving of the Ion and connecting and disconnecting the DVI conector is causing trouble with the cable and with the connection on the motherboard as well (!). Pins get bend and we are afraid that the motherboard gets damaged during touring, wich we believe is not far from happening (!).
  • Thanks for the posts.

I will ask each ETC office to stock spare splitter cables at a reasonable price.

If your splitter fails or is left at your last gig, you can use the VGA port on the back of your Ion to get a single monitor going.

  • The Dual DVI splitter is supposed to be a standard off the shelf splitter.  You can probably find them at some local computer stores or obviously your local ETC Rep.
