Anyone have any experience using external encoders with Nomad?

I'm looking at getting a couple external encoders to use for pan and tilt with Nomad. (The programming wing is too expensive and too large for my cart.) In particular, I'm looking at a Griffin Powermate USB but if anyone has a better idea or a different product they've been using, let me know.

  • The 3dconnexion products look like they are more of a 3d modeling positioning device and I don't know if they have multiple speeds. I think they might function more like a joystick than an encoder so that might not be the best choice as compared to something that has a continuously spinning encoder.

An Arduino encoder is way beyond my scope unless Andrew Webberley wants to post step-by-step instructions or start building them and selling them.
