Anyone have any experience using external encoders with Nomad?

I'm looking at getting a couple external encoders to use for pan and tilt with Nomad. (The programming wing is too expensive and too large for my cart.) In particular, I'm looking at a Griffin Powermate USB but if anyone has a better idea or a different product they've been using, let me know.

I've had good luck building Arduino encoders. I have a two encoder setup that works well. Pan/Tilt with Next/Last buttons.

+1 on OSC. there is a translator program to use a 3dconnexion spacemouse (6x2 directions + 2 buttons). or build it yourself just like andrew did.

The 3dconnexion products look like they are more of a 3d modeling positioning device and I don't know if they have multiple speeds. I think they might function more like a joystick than an encoder so that might not be the best choice as compared to something that has a continuously spinning encoder.

An Arduino encoder is way beyond my scope unless Andrew Webberley wants to post step-by-step instructions or start building them and selling them.

John, Lets talk. I can get you outfitted with something to make your life easier. I can put together something that will work. Just need to decide on some ip address info to put into the code and what type of physical encoder you are looking for.

I'm finishing up the Android version of oscRFR right now but I will be working on making Arduino accessories easier for people to add to their systems.
