Feature request/multi-cell workaround advice

I know that it's bee on "the list" for a while, but i'd like to add my 2¢ that multi-cell support is very important to me.

The issue in this particular case: working around things like colorforces is easy when you patch each cell as its own channel. However, I have a Robe Robin 300LED Wash which has 3 concentric rings of color control that presents a bigger problem.

I'd like to break it into 4 channels:

  1. Master-- Pan, tilt, zoom, other universal functions
  2. Inner ring color control RGBW
  3. Middle ring color control RGBW
  4. Outer ring color control RGBW

BUT, the parameter breakdown in the fixture is some thing like this:

  1. Pan
  2. Tilt
  3. Red1
  4. Green 1
  5. Blue1
  6. Red2
  7. Green 2
  8. Blue 2... etc
  9. Zoom

So the issue is that the color is sandwiched between various fixture-wide parameters, so even if I make a custom profile, the color addresses are still being used up.

This is all to say I would really like to see native multi-cell  support, and would be interested to hear if anyone has any workarounds for such fixtures. I'm attaching the manual.

  • in this scenario you can use parts. so let's say 30 is your mother channel and 31 to 33 the three child channels. 31 to 33 you can easily use a generic led personality, probably LED RGB 16b, but i didn't check the robe layout carefully.
for the mother channel that has that gap in between you could make two parts. so one part is a custom personality that has pan, tilt, postion speed and special functions in it, and part 2 is another custom personality with the parameters after the child colors, like zoom and so on.
if you want to use marking you should make sure that channel 30 has an intens somewhere, even if it's virtual (i.e. without assigned dmx slot) so you can force or prohibit marks in certain cues.

  • Ok... but the profile has some special modes in it which the console won't let me delete. Any way to do this without just creating a new profile from scratch? I don't think there's a way for me to easily copy over all the lamp controls is there?
  • Grayed out parameters can't be moved. Some parameters you can "un-gray" by removing all lamp control items that reference that dmx offset. But those gay ones that are then still gray will stay gray. They represent linked parameters, that's two parameters accessing the same DMX address. This links can only be done in the official fixture library and neither added nor edited nor deleted in the console.
Long story short: if there are gray parameters you will be faster (or probably the only way...) when starting from scratch.
