Patching DMX fixtures with the ION

Just got the ION. With other older consoles I have worked with, when patching in a DMX fixture I have had to patch each parameter to a different channel. If the ION considers each fixture to be a channel, does that mean I can patch in a DMX fixture that requires 12 parameter addresses to CHANNEL 1, and all of the addresses that go with the fixture will be associated with that channel?

  • That is correct. The Ion uses a library of fixture type profiles so it knows how many addresses to assign to each patched channel.

Just make sure you're picking the correct fixture type for the fixture you're using!

If you're just starting out, I recommend visiting the Eos Family Video Learning Series on Youtube:

  • As long as you find the fixture in the Library. So if you have a Clay Paky Sharpy that has 14 channels in it. Type 1 in patch window then click on type on the right, then bottom left you will see Manfctr(click) >> to Clay Paky >> to find sharpy(click) you will have to pick the correct sharpy for you have for the amount of channels. In this case S, then @ #. If you patching to say universe 3 you type 3/# and it will patch there. if you are starting at 1 then 3/1. Address your fixture and all 14 channels will be available when you type channel 1.
