Missing Motherboard Upgrade Eligibility by 87 units? Seriously?

Wow. Kind of disappointed to find this out. I can't get our Ion upgraded to a new embedded Windows 7 motherboard because we missed the cutoff by 87 units!

First eligible S/N is 433202100 and ours is 433202013. Ouch!

  • The serial number range reflects a number of changes we made around that time in manufacturing and is a rather conservative number. I looked into your console's build in particular and confirmed it is eligible. (If you run into questions with your contacts about this, send them my way - hh <at> etcconnect <dot> com). Sorry for all the confusion - we wanted to make sure the serial number listed guaranteed compatibility.

  • Ok! That's good to hear. I do have a question. The information about the upgrade states, "The fader wing cannot be docked directly, and instead would need to be run with a separate USB cable to the console or pass through a USB 1.1 hub." Does this mean that I will no longer be able to attach my fader wings to the console and use a separate connecting cable , or does it mean that I will simply have to use a cable connection and a power supply while still being able to physically attach the wings to the console?

    Thanks!
  • The docking connector contains both power and USB and there isn't a way to disable it. So yes, it does mean you can no longer dock the console and fader wing together. Note that we do have an upgrade available for the fader wing to make it dockable with the upgraded Ion. It also adds an auto power-on feature.
  • Hans,

I have a total of 3 fader wings. Two of them are the 40 fader (2 X 20) dockable wings, and the third is a 1 X 20 wing that mounts off the back of the Ion. I know that the two dockable wings will need an upgrade, but what about the 1 X 20 wing?

    Thanks!
  • Since the 1x20 has a direct connection to the console and no provision for docking, there is no upgrade required (or available) for that wing.

    Good question!
