etc element copy a cue / magic sheets

Hi, I am learning how to program an element desk . I worked out how to do a magic sheet ,

first question , How do you copy a cue ?  Say cue 34 and insert it as cue 36 because a show is just 3 scenes and it goes back and forth !

second question , when I lighting a scene using magic sheets , I click onto the lantern set the level intense , then when i am happy with the scene i record cue 1 , then it prompts me to select lanterns . so i have to re select all the lanterns i used . and re set levels again what i am doing wrong seems a long way doing it

 thank you ginger

  • You could recal from cue 34 then record the look as cue 36. Or if the 3 screens are always occurring in the same order (I.e. 1,2,3,1,2,3...) the you could link cue 3 back to cue 1.
Not sure about the magic sheet thing.
    Regards
    Geoff
  • To answer your first question, there is literally a [Copy To] button.
[Cue] [34] [Copy to] [Cue] [36] [Enter] would accomplish that.

It's worth a skim in the manual, Copy To is useful in many instances.

On the second issue, I don't use the magic sheets, so not sure what you're experiencing.
Does your failed attempt reset every selection you made to 0?
What are you typing to record the cue?
  • Hi , yes so al the lanterns I select all the lanterns , then the yellow band comes around say lanterns  , set the levels to what ever % , then go to record ,  cue 1 then all the yellow band disappear and the levels go to 0 ? So I have to click the lanterns again ... ?

  • I've never worked on Element but I guess its software is the same as on other Eos consoles... I frequently copy cues on our Ion and Gio consoles by simply going to cue I want to copy and recording it as new cue, especially if I want to be sure that "it" is the cue number I want to copy... otherwise syntax Wuz314159 wrote, works "like a charm"... ;)
in your case command syntax would be: [GoTo Cue] [34] [Enter] [Record] [Cue] [36] [Enter] - if Cue 36 is the last cue in your cuestack!!

if, by copying Cue 34, you are inserting Cue 36 between already existing cues in your cuestack and you're working in track mode, the syntax would be: [GoTo Cue] [34] [Enter] [Record] [Cue] [36] [Q Only] [Enter]

if you know that you'll use the same cue repetedly (like "full main light" or "blackout") you can record all cue numbers at once... build up your cue (or take everything out in case of b.o.) and press: [Record] [Cue] [x+y+z+...+n] [Enter] , but than you have to record all other cues that fit between as [Q Only], or their channel values will track trough and your b.o. suddenly won't be b.o. any more...  in case you are inserting multiple cues (like b.o.) into your cuestack, comand syntax should end with [Q Only] [Enter]

just be sure what mode your console is in, because when in "tracking" mode, you can make quite a mess out of your exsisting cue stack by copying and inserting cues "the wrong way"  ;)

as for the MS "problem"... I haven't encountered it... when I select fixtures, set their level and record a cue with them, it gets recorded.... might be you have a problem with their channel tatgets?

  • i'm not sure what happens when you're lights go back to zero.

two questions to help find out what is going on:
    - when you select channels and set a level and you see the intensity number on screen, press clear. this should remove the yellow band around the channel. does the intensity number stay or does it go away?

    - after record when the lights went out, do you see intensity 0 or is there no number (just empty)? and if there is a 0, which color does it have? which channel of this picture does it look like?

  • when you select a channel and put some intensity on, you will see gold tile lineout and red intensity number.... that means "chan. x" is selected and its intensity is "live/active" (not yet recorded)... until these two "conditions" are fulfilled, you can change channels intensity (or any other parameter if it has one).
if you pres [Clear] you "deselect" the channel and its gold outline will disappear, but red parameter value will stay until it is "recorded" or "sneaked"!
so, basically, if you want to deselect a channel and "reset" its active parameter value(s), you have to "clear" AND "sneak" it... or in syntax: [Clear] [Sneak] [Enter] ... which by the way, will deselect and turn off  ALL active channels AND their parameter values (or return them on their recorded values)...
it might sound stupid, but [Sneak] is actually rather powerful and selective tool, because you can selectively "release" desired parameter if changed by mistake... for instance, you have a bunch of ML fixtures. you are in the middle of editing newly recorded cue and, there are numerous channels (and their parameters) active (red values)... but in the midst of editing, you mistakenly changed pan and tilt on ML fixture that you didn't want to touch and you didn't notice that at the time! or, you  changed a parameter you didn't want to AFTER you changed a bunch of those you did want to.... on old consoles all you could do is pres "release" and all active channels went out... now, you can "target" what you want to "go out" (or to its recorded value) and for our "example the syntax would be: [Channel xy] {focus} [Sneak] [Enter]... undesired change will be "relased", while all other active channel parameters wil remain "unharmed" :).

and it is nice to know the significance of parameter color... green means that value was decreased from its value in previous cue, blue means that value was increased, white that value in this cue is blocked and red that it is active/not recorded! as well as it is good to know that with crossfade an active (red) parameter value will change to the value it has in next cue, but it won't if its channel is still selected (outlined with gold).... ;)

I hope all this didn't sound too complicated... :)

o, right... almost forgot... when recorded channel value goes out with next cue it will display green 0 when this cue is executed. and this will turn into purple "-" , if its "zero value" is tracked in to next cue.

  • Replying to second point as I think what you were actually getting at has not been answered.

Even if not using a magic sheet if I do Chan 1+2+4 @ 50 enter and it sets the lights to 50% then when I press Record if deselects the channels - I think that is what you are concerned about.

It does that deliberately as Record with then correctly record the cue, you dont need to have channels selected for Record to work.

You can (but rarely want to) manually select channels to do a selective record but the desk assumes you don't want to do that unless you actively select then before pressing record.

    From the manual:

[Record] <Cue> [5] [Enter] - records all parameters of any channels with non-default data into the specified cue number 5.

[1][Thru][5][Record]<Cue>[4][Enter]-this records only channels 1 through 5 into cue 4.
  • ginger, if you still have the problem please answer my two question in my post above. there are two functions that could be interfering with what you do, although i'm not 100% clear why. but with the answers we can traack that down.
