Ion busking

Hello

Had to busk a show the other day on an ion, quite simple (only 4 macs and a few pars) and on the whole wasn't too difficult, however I noticed a couple of things

 - Due to the hire company being annoying I only had one monitor, however this meant that each time I did anything that involved either the Live/Blind/Browser I would have to re-set up my pallets, interestingly the ones I placed in CIA would remember their settings, however the ones at the top would forget them. While I appreciate it is best to have two screens, there are times that only one is feasible (space etc) so would it be possible to have a way to 'swap' one monitor between the two displays, or to 'save' a display layout for easy recall

 - It doesn't seem to be possible to use 'sneak' with pallete direct selects - I wanted to move my lights to a position in 3 seconds then I had to actually type '@focusPallet 23 sneak 5', whereas I would like to be able to use @sneak 5 {pallete select} - could that be introduced?

 - I understand from tech support that effects can not currently be assigned into a submaster, instead it was suggested that I put a one cue stack onto a sub as a playback, however then I seemed to have issues getting the playback to trigger and release. I was only useing these for par can chases, so very simple, but obviously a bit annoying that something this simple couldn't be done  at present. Is this something that is being worked on?

 Otherwise, was great to use!

Thanks

Richard

  • in regards to the effects question, I have put effects on faders and had them work just fine.  Mostly I also just use them for par chases.  I put the effect into a cue and link that cue back to itself.  pushing the go button activates the effect, pushing back deactivates it.  if another cue causes the effect to deactivate due to LTP status pushing go again will reactivate the cue since it is linked back to itself.  I also make the fader an intesity master so I can activate the effect and then fade it up and down manually.  hope this helps.
  • Richard.... we are working on ways to make the direct selects more sticky.... but it is very much not recommended to try to run Ion on one monitor if you are trying to use direct selects while busking.  The desk is entirely too modal at that stage.  Understand that you don't always have the option however.

We are adding the syntax to Sneak the direct selects in a future release.  We have a couple of other "live event" functions in the works for that as well.  FYI, you don't need to use [at] to set palettes.... just saving you a keystroke here.

Effects on subs will be in 1.5.  We have a number of people running effects on single cue cue lists though.  Not sure what kind of problem you were having. Feel free to elaborate?

    thanks,

  • Hello

Thanks for this. I think the one I was having trouble with was a cue list that had an intensity step-based effect. When putting that in a cue list, and assigning that cue list to a playback (set to level master) the effect seemed to output whether the  fader was up or down.

It all seemed quite happy with a curve-based effect however.

The other thing I have remembered, is that if I deleted all un-used submasters (delete sub 2>20 enter) then the LEDs would turn off, showing that the sumaster was emtpy (while still a submaster), however when I rebooted the desk all the 'empty' submasters would have their LEDs on again, needing me to delete them once again - is this a known thing?

     Thanks

     Richard

  • Hi Richard,

I think this is an issue that is known about. It stems from the change which came in with 1.4.2 on Ion which defaults Channels to Subs on a 1 to 1 basis when you open a new show. I think the fact that empty subs default back when you restart is a bug. (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong). I think I read in a previous post that this feature will soon be able to be toggled on or off in setup.

This is a known thing, and something I would love them to modify.  The 1-to-1 loading occurs on boot-up, if you have an existing file active on the console, and probably when you Open a blank show.

When you Open a pre-existing show from the hard drive/USB/whatever, any empty subs recorded in that show are loaded into the console as empty subs.  So, open your current show, delete the 1-to-1 subs, resave your show.  Next time you boot up, Open your show file, and the 1-to-1 subs will become blank.

I have a house patch, house subs, etc., and need to reload the house settings each show to open up my blank subs. (I've got 80 subs and 100 subs in my 2 venues, and up to 70 of them used, and rest want to be empty to build my nightly 1-off shows.
