XE bug or user error: two touch screens won't work using both usb's at rear

So I attended the training class a couple of weeks ago and finally received my new XE 20. I decided to go through the training books item x item to help me understand things better and I am not sure if I have encountered bugs (known or not) or if they are just user error. I am only about 1/2 way thru so more possibly to come. I also contemplated putting them all on one post however things can get pretty polluted that way so I will be posting them individually.

If you have any suggestions, experience with them or know they are bugs please advise.

I will copy and paste this intro into each one for new readers.

I have two Dell P2418HT monitors. When each one is connected to usb ports on the rear of the XE only the left monitor touch works. When I use the XE face panel usb (on the top of the console) as the second input they both work.

  • We use the same touchscreens in training with both touchscreens plugged in to the back of the console. Have you gone in to the shell> Setup> Monitor Arrangement> Configure Touchscreens? That should sort it out after you tap each touchscreen in order.

Alternatively, have you verified that all of the USB ports work (plug in mouse or keyboard)?

  • Hook up day I tried the align but it put the first X so far up into the left corner I could not touch it, so I had to abort that.

  • I then tried Configure and when I was done it combined both screens up into one big screen. So again I aborted. What was happening was when I touched the left screen it actually worked the left screen. This happened using either the left or right rear second usb. So when I used the top usb the right monitor worked perfectly without any configuring, other than the original identifying and placing A and B. So today I tried the two rear usb's again and tried the Configure again. It didn't combine them both into one screen but instead made them both work. Very strange how yesterday the right monitor would only work when using the top usb port, even without any configuring. But they both work now. Yeah!!!!

  • I'm not in front of a console at the moment so I could have the exact details wrong- the Configure Touchscreens button I'm talking about is within the Monitor Arrangement window, I'm not taking about the Calibrate Touchscreens button.

It will make both screens go white and one will say "Touch here to make this screen a touchscreen", then you touch it and press enter and the same message appears on the other screen, which you touch and press enter to complete. This should set it so that touches go the correct screen.

I have no answer for why it would work correctly on one USB port and not another, other than that full Windows installations sometimes take a few seconds to load drivers if you plug a device in to a "new" USB port.

Edit - simultaneous post with Jeff's last post

  • When I mentioned calibrate I was just saying I tried a few things. I don't think I will ever be able to Calibrate anyway since it starts off with the first X to touch so far off into the screen top left corner I cannot do it.

The Configure with the white screens was also what I did and that one was what caused both to go to one big screen. It happened when I touched the second screen. I then aborted that and left it as it was.

I first had both monitors in two usb ports on the back that were stacked. when the right monitor did not work I moved them to left monitor on one of the usb's on the left and the right one to one of the usb's on the right. They were connected for a while and I could never get the right one to work. I plugged and unplugged a few times both on the console side and the monitor side to make sure they were all the way in and still nothing on the right monitor.

A few seconds after connecting the right one to the top usb it worked.

Next day I reconnected the right one to one of the right side usb ports again and did the Configure (white screens) again and it then worked. I had checked it first again before doing that and it still was touching to the left monitor. So Configure worked that time.

I think we will have to chalk this one up to a mystery. At least they both work now.
