CHASE (effect) > Submaster

Hello, Robert:

This can be achieved by running an effect and recording that running effect into the submaster.

Step 2:  Run the effect.  Chan [x][Thru][y][Effect][z][Enter].

Thanks Sasha. When I tried to play the effect and then record the sub I got an error message hence my post. Tried again based on your notes - the only difference was once the Effect was called I [Cleared] the command line. [Record] [Sub] then worked very well. A residual question; If/When I record this (simple, step based) effect to a CUE, it starts and works OK but when we move on to the next cue the Effect does another couple of cycles! I changed the Effect to only repeat twice which worked fine but would be glad for any advice on how to shut down the Effect cleanly on cue exit.

Hello, Robert.  Go to the cue you want it to stop in.  Say [Effect][At][Enter] to insert a stop effect flag.  Then [Update][Enter] to update the cue.

This is because the effect tracks into the next cue so just like everything else the AT enter concept works

Aha - the [Effect][At][Enter] I use to stop a recalled effect! We put it into the cue. That makes a great deal of sense. Noted, and thank you.

I've used [At] where instructed but need to do a bit more reading about its concept. Thanks for helping here. 

It's not so much the @ command as what isn't following it.

A number would apply that effect, but zero has no real meaning here but does for basic level functions, of course. With nothing (known as 'Null') it functions more like 'delete all' so some other effect/level/whatever can be applied.

Hmm! The only ref I can find in the manual is p176 "Using [At] {/] [/] . . . " And searching for more on the AT concept of course is quite hard because, well, "At" is everywhere. If you had to describe in as few and simple words what the [At] button does, what would you say? I know it is going to be horribly and embracingly simple.

I forgot to say that I get the put a channel [AT] a value. Its these other uses that get me.

It's as Rick says it the lack of anything after the AT before the Enter that is the magic here meaning remove the value

so if you were editing a cue then chan 1 red @ enter  would remove the red value from the cue and so it would then take on whatever tracked into the cue,  whereas chan 1 red @ 0 enter would set it to 0 in the cue.

Perhaps they should create a "Null" command, just to make it easier to learn. The short cut for Null is simply to leave it out! 

Rest assured, you are not the only one having trouble with this.

Mike - My "Bell" went off! That's what I was looking for. Rick makes a good point. The EOS manual has a tremendous area to cover. And as a total newcomer I believe there is a certain assumption in it about the readers pre-existing knowledge. Try looking up [At] in the index. A 'Null" would be nice but I would rather understand what is already here there then add (yet) another button That's why this board and the ETC videos are so very important. Thank you both. My [At] is happy!

Yes [AT] is a very painful to search for, its on 61 pages !!

AT enter is in the index at the end of the manual and there is a section at the top of page 269

Using [At] [Enter]

A useful feature when editing cues is [At] [Enter]. This is a simple feature which allows you to select any channel or parameter, or several of them, and remove their move instructions, allowing the value from the previous cue to be manually recalled.

[At] [Enter] is essentially a “recall from the previous cue” command.

You may use [At] [Enter] to affect only certain channels or parameters by selecting them specifically:

[2] [At] [Enter] - this will remove the changes for channel 2 only.
[2] {Color} [At] [Enter] - this will remove only the color data changes for channel 2.

[2] [Thru] [5] [+] [9] [+] [1] [1] [Thru] [1] [5] [-] [1] [2] [-] {Zoom} [At] [Enter] - removes the changes for only the selected channels for all parameters except zoom.

I think the issue with Null is that it already exists in Eos- and it allows a value to exist but be ignored, such as when you need to keep a light on but want to record it's gobo.  You can make the intensity null and it will be on but not record.

Copied and pasted into my supplementary notes. Having the EOS software on my dual monitor setup at home allows me to practice this stuff off site. Tremendous!
