Shortcut to updating Submasters

Is there a shortcut to update the contents of a submaster without actually having to memorize and type in the submaster's number? On the Obsession, you would do this by typing [UPDATE], then hitting the bump button of the appropriate fader. Is there any similar functionality on the Ion? Ethan

Curious as to the rational for current level as a value on the LCD screen.  One would expect that an operator using a manual fader such as a sub - in any config. - direct channel control, group of channels, cue, effect, etc... can judge relative value by observing the position of the fader.  One would think that if you need more precise level data, you'd look at a monitor.  Am I missing something about what the current level readout on the fader wing LCD is supposed to be showing ?.

  • Fair enough... but a digital readout is more accurate that visual observation from a pot setting.  Additionally, since you can set sub levels from the command line or different fader pages - or different desks -  it also tells you what the current level of that sub is, in the event the submaster was not set with that particular potentiometer.    The standard view of the playback status display only shows 10 submasters (if you use the 1x20 wing, we do add a row at the bottom for those). .  You can get a view of the sub settings by changing the format of the PSD, which gives you the settings for 100 subs (on Eos only, not available on Ion).

...and I love that feature! Please don't change it! (Unless you incorporate motorized faders....) On another note, the UPDATE function on Eos/Ion is smart enough to update changes back to the source cue if multiple cuelists are running; couldn't it be smart enough to update changes to an HTP or LTP submaster, if that is where the changed attribute was getting its source value from? • This may be too much to ask, but I am going to throw it out there. On my digital sound console, it has the name label above the fader, and when you run the fader up or down, it changes to show what the dB level is, and after you are done adjusting, it returns to the name. Is this possible on the sub wings if you are going to change how the display functions, couldnt something like that be implemented?

Yup, I knew there was more to this then I thought.  So maybe have a way to select which parameters are viewed on the LCD ?.  I can see systems, most likely Ion, where there may well not be separate fader wings remote from the console and readback might just be useless clutter.  Maybe version 3, or somewhere way in the future.

And I hate to nitpick, but I'm old enough to remember that the term "pot" referered to a rotary dial, where as a fader is linear.  In your terminoligy, having a level readout would make sense if the sub was a "pot", as the position is not obvious.  A fader is obvious, which is why I believe that if you are setting values via the fader, you are aware that the ulitimate level is not precise, thus there's sometimes no need for precise level data on the LCD.

I disagree. The faders on the Universal Fader Wing are so short, there could be virtually no visible difference between faders that are 10-20% apart, unless they are right next to each other. Also, when I change pages on my fader wing, I love that it tells me what level a fader is SUPPOSED to be at, so I can carefully move the fader to the correct level (as long as there are no motorized faders).
