Firmware update for RFR

Hmm....  Just tried to update handheld remote firmware from RPU again and all seemed to go fine.  Only thing that has changed is a power cycle, and used a different USB port (although I doubt the latter had anything to do with it)

So all is working fine now....

updating the firmware was a realy crazy thing.

I have tried it also over the ION Console with the same result.

So i used the CGE Version 1.1 !!! on my laptop to update the base station and the remote.

When I plugged the remote and the base station, windows XP asked me to install the drivers,

when it is done, there is no problem to update over CGE 1.1, maybe the divers were not installed

on ION when updating the software to 1.4.4

The next problem is the connection to the ION when you use static network-adresses on your system

(I am running 1 ION Console woth 35 NET3 Twoportnodes and 4 Sensorracks with double prozessors),

so you have to activate the DCHP-Service on ION and you have change the networkadress of your PC

also to DCHP, then CGE finds your RFR (meanwhile your have to shut down the ION- Systemand to reboot it).

Now, after 3 hours hard work the RFR will work fine in the network.

Sorry you both had troubles getting the RFR firmware update installed. We are updating the instructions to be a bit clearer.

Since the software originally included with your Eos did not include drivers for the update tool, updating  from your console, RVI or RPU may not be the simplest method. These devices suppress installation of USB drivers.

We recommend using Offline or GCE on a separate PC as the quickest method. On a separate PC you get the option to install the drivers (like Stefan experienced.

Regarding changing to fixed IP addressing instead of DHCP...

It would be much quicker to use your laptop running GCE to configure the base station IP address.

I found using GCE on the RPU worked fine in the end, although I did have problems getting the RFR hand held unit to update.

Problem with using a PC with GCE is I have a mac and haven't seen GCE software for mac...

Yeah, I have a Mac, too.  Steve from tech support gave me instructions on a full console re-image in order to get XPe updated (which I will eventually do, but it involves completely wiping all saved data and settings).  I will investigate other methods to update the RFR for now.  Does GCE work on the RVI?

A Re-image does wipe all data - but you can do an Archive Backup to USB from

the Settings window. This saves all show data; you just need to write down the external

settings like IP, Protocol, etc.

GCE should work on the RVI - haven't tried it out though.

You can install GCE onto your Ion and then update your RFR also so.

GCE on the ION will update the RFR, even if the XPe is version 1.3?

If you install GCE V1.0.1 (current) onto your Ion, it will update the RFR to V2.0.0 (current);

Can you explain how?  When I launch the GCE application, I get an error:

"Unable to start communication with devices...

Make sure the correct network interface is selected.

GCE will not function without a selected primary network interface"

I have messed with the network settings on the ION, and can't seem to find a setting within the GCE to enable any other interfaces.

When I try and update the RFR to 2.0, I get an error:

"Please verify that the RFR device you wish to update is connected via USB and was started in update mode.  Etc. etc.etc."

GCE does not seem to want to do anything.

 I apologize for any confusion but as Dennis stated earlier, GCE installed through the shell won't be able to run the USB software update on any Eos, Ion, RVI, or RPU with an XPe image before 1.4.2.  For customers with that base software version, we recommend using GCE from a standalone laptop to do the software update. 

  Like Corey said, if you're still having issues you should probably give us a call tomorrow.  We're in the office 8-5 CST.

Just to add to what Tracy said.

Even though you are having problems with GCE on your Ion\Eos, it is important not to try to uninstall it.   Some of the network services on your console are very much intertwined with GCE and uninstalling could cause issues with the console's regular operation.
