Firmware update for RFR

Hi there

Just upgraded to Ion v1.4.4 and currently trying to upgrade the RFR firmware to v2.0

Had some issues trying to upgrade - both the base station and remote didn't want to play nicely.  I had the USB key with the new firmware inserted, however I always got a message saying i needed to use the GCE on a PC or upgrade to latest software (which I have already done)

In settings, I activated 'update services' in the network services.  This worked a treat as i was able to update the firmware on the base station, however when trying to update the remote, I get a message saying something along the lines of 'unable to upgrade - incompatible device'

I also found I had to use the RPU to do the firmware upgrade.  The ION console was still giving me nasty messsages about needing to upgrade console software or use a PC.

Any suggestion on how to get around this?  I haven't tried using GCE yet (in the middle of bump-in), but will hopefully get a chance during the week

Cheers - BFJ

EDIT:  Just tried to update handheld remote from GCE on both RPU and Ion Console and encountered same respective problems as mentioned above

  • Hi,

updating the firmware was a realy crazy thing.

I have tried it also over the ION Console with the same result.

So i used the CGE Version 1.1 !!! on my laptop to update the base station and the remote.

When I plugged the remote and the base station, windows XP asked me to install the drivers,

when it is done, there is no problem to update over CGE 1.1, maybe the divers were not installed

on ION when updating the software to 1.4.4

The next problem is the connection to the ION when you use static network-adresses on your system

(I am running 1 ION Console woth 35 NET3 Twoportnodes and 4 Sensorracks with double prozessors),

so you have to activate the DCHP-Service on ION and you have change the networkadress of your PC

also to DCHP, then CGE finds your RFR (meanwhile your have to shut down the ION- Systemand to reboot it).

Now, after 3 hours hard work the RFR will work fine in the network.

  • Brent and Stefan,

Sorry you both had troubles getting the RFR firmware update installed. We are updating the instructions to be a bit clearer.

Since the software originally included with your Eos did not include drivers for the update tool, updating  from your console, RVI or RPU may not be the simplest method. These devices suppress installation of USB drivers.

We recommend using Offline or GCE on a separate PC as the quickest method. On a separate PC you get the option to install the drivers (like Stefan experienced.

Regarding changing to fixed IP addressing instead of DHCP...

It would be much quicker to use your laptop running GCE to configure the base station IP address.

    Thanks for the feedback,
