Networking RFR in 1.4.4

I just updated our EOS console, RPU and RVI (+offline PC) to 1.4.4 and the RFR to 2.0.  I have no communication with the RFR when trying to use it via Ethernet.  When it is plugged into the RPU via USB, it works fine.

I connected the RFR base station into our POE switch with a normal Ethernet cable- it has power and the green LED comes on, but the remote cannot find the base station.

I assume that you have to tell the base station which EOS device to talk to, but I don't know what is used to configure the RFR base station to do so.  Do I have to use the Net3 GCE?

  • Ellen-

Thanks for the rev. C guide.  It explained it all-

I had to load the GCE onto my laptop and use that to configure the RFR base station and give it a static IP address.  There is no DHCP server on our lighting network (by design) so the base station was defaulting to an IP address that would not communicate with the rest of the devices.

Of course, when I enabled the DCHP server on the GCE, it initially gave the RFR the same IP address as one of our DMX nodes.  So still no communication until I sorted that out.

After I set the static IP on the RFR base station and rebooted it, I followed Corey's instructions to connect the remote to our RPU and had it up and running in a minute.

Is there an "ETC approved" IP address range for RFR's?  I just picked something that I knew would work and not conflict with the other devices.  I remember seeing a document that listed the "ETC approved" IP ranges for the various networked devices, but I don't remember where.

  • Howdy Todd,

on the ETC Website www.etcconnect.com under the blue header SERVICE, click TECHNICAL SERVICES.

On that page, in the middle, you will find the third blue link KNOWLEDGE BASE > click this.

The Knowledge Base is a database of ours with tons of cool product information and usage tips. Here you can type

in "IP" and click (search) and you will find a document with ETC NETWORK IP ADDRESSES (or click here)

    http://www.etcconnect.com/knowledgebase.aspx?ID=20994

and here is ETC Recommended IP Addresses.

For RFR (or Wireless Remotes), you can use 10.101.124.101 (thru .124).

    Have fun!
