Importing ASCII Softpatch - Ion

I am wondering what the proper procedure is for importing just a softpatch. The current documentation says that import Lightwright supports either .txt or .asc. I am used to exporting to .asc as that is how I do it with Expression. When I go to look for the .asc file on my usb drive (in the root directory), it does not show up. I can import the patch as an entire show with the .asc, but I don't want it to overwrite the show, just the patch. The documentation talks about an advanced option when importing, but I think that is from previous versions. The only workaround I can see right now, is importing the patch, then re-opening the show with everything but the patch. Am I missing something?

  • Brian,

No, I don't think you're missing anything. I have had the same issue with being unable to import just a patch under the "Advanced" tab under the import dialog. You can put in a range and target for just about everything except patch. I brought this to the attention of my rep and he said they would look into it.

I have had a similar circumstance with first patching the movers in a rig but then wanting to simply "add in" the conventional patch by importing the patch range from the ASCII file....but no dice.

  • We had a demo from Josh at ETC yesterday.  The following was explained regarding importing ascii and patch:

Importing Patch:  At the moment, it is all or nothing, however this will hopefully change in the future

Importing Ascii:  It is all or nothing.  If you want to import just a patch, import the file, save as a .esf, then you can import just the patch.

    Hope that helps.  BFJ

I'm away from my OLE, is is possible to save the ASCII as an esf, then import a group of channels from the patch? My concern is the same as ldsfx, I dont want to overwrite my fixture patches, just the conventional stuff.
