Snapshot of a single bank of Direct Selects

I am trying to create a menuing system similar to David Kane's in the Effects Organization video:

In both his personal file, and the one he's using for the tutorials, he mentions a snapshot for a single bank of direct selects (in the demo file it's Effects, in his own file is Custom Direct Selects).

I cannot figure out how to make this happen.  When he shows the effects navigation on the right screen of the console, it takes up an entire tab frame.   I have figured out how to make that work.  However, he then reuses those Custom Direct Selects on the left console screen, it is 1 of 4 direct select banks.   The bottom 3 operate independently from the top one.  

Unless he is making every permutation of screenshot between the bottom section and the top (29 options for the bottom x (at least) 36 options above = 1044 screenshots minimum), I can't figure it out.

Any one know how to make a screenshot of a single Direct Select bank?

    changing Direct Selects can be done through snapshots. when recording snapshots look at the top right of your display, it shows the record settings for this snapshot.

    • the Workspace choice makes it record how many tabs are there and which kind
    • the Direct select choice makes it record whic category of direct selects you see, what their settings are and which number range of DS objects is visible
    • the Custom DS choice makes it record which target is assignet to which button of  a Custom Direct Selects tab
    • and in the tree structure you can choose which tab(s) on which workspaces you want recorded.

    Thank for the explanation.  However, although it's possible that I'm just dense - it doesn't solve the issue of all the permutations.   Let's say the following, based on the menuing structure David uses, just for his Intensity FX. 

    For the +/- option, there is Wave, Step, Burst and Ramp.   So that's 4 snapshots (which is essentially 4 pages of 5x10 Custom Direct Selects). 

    For the next type of intensity effect ("+" option), there is Wave, Step, Burst, and Ramp.  4 more snapshots (4 more pages of 5x10 Custom Direct Selects).  

    This continues thru "-", "Random/Strobes", and "Other".  So that's 16-20 snapshots (16-20 pages of Custom Direct Selects).   I am good with that and understand that.  When he has those on his right screen, they are in their own frame.  So I can, as you suggested Ueli, select just that frame, as well as "Direct Selects" and "Custom Direct Selects".    When I restore those snapshots, it will restore them into that frame (4.6 in David's example).   Good so far.

    When he goes over to his left screen, however, he shows the SAME Custom Direct Selects as were shown on the right screen.  The macro number for his "menu buttons" are the exact same.    However, this time they are in a new tab (4.9 on that screen) with 7 other Direct Select banks - Macros, Effects, Focus, Beam, Color, Groups, and Presets (from the bottom up). 

    When clicking on the Macro Direct Selects, it "pages" through the Effects, Focus, Beam, Color, Groups and Presets for all 30 macros.  Those can easily be done with 30 snapshots.   HOWEVER, that FX Custom Direct Selects from the previous screen is also in that frame, meaning it would be included with that snapshot.

    Does that make sense?  It's very possible I'm missing some salient detail about snapshots or Direct Selects that is going over my head.
