Safari Users

Hi Anne,

I am a new Eos user from Teatro Real in Madrid. We used to have a console using the safari protocol from avab. Is there any old safari users than have changed to Eos out there? It would be good to know how they do and how they are adapting to Eos.

Take care.

Juan Carlos.

  • Hi Juan!  I'll be dropping by your venue for a day in early June.  Angel has the schedule.  Hope to have a chance to talk with you.  In the meantime, yes, we do have at least one other former Safari install - the one that I'm aware of is in Canada. (There may be more, and if so, maybe they will chime in).   I'll email my contact there and ask him to either respond with their experiences here, or perhaps directly by email.

Thanks for joining the forum.  Look forward to your input!

  • We are currently making the transition from Safari to EOS. We starting cueing in 3 weeks but have installed and tested an EOS, RPU, RVI and ION as tech console extensively.

I am also new to this forum but will figure out how to post a doc - we have a Safari-EOS basic language document that has been helpful with training our board ops and for the design team.

Let's see if that works - please keep in mind that these definitions work for us in how we programmed in Safari and how we think we will program in EOS

  • Hi Anne,

I will be there. Angel told me about it. It will be good to see you. Meanwhile I had an e-mail from a previous Safari user who has sent a very helpful document (translating some of the Safari commands into Eos commands). I am sure the guys at Teatro Real will appreciate this.

    Look after yourself.

    Juan.

  • Hi Greg,

Thanks for the document, I am sure the operators at Teatro Real will find it very helpful. We have been using an Avab Viking for the last 10 years, it had a lot of improvements from a Sweedish engineer  along this time. We were quite happy with the console but a problem with a motherboard and the prospects of having not much servicing in the future, made us change to a more modern console.

In general we are happy with Eos (we have been using it now for few months), it is a more advance board that our previous Viking. But we miss some of the things we used to do with our Viking, for example: working on live and blind at the same time (we have two operators working together), "invert group" command (there is nothing quite the same in Eos), Topographic system, mouse being able to select and modify channel values, etc.

Good luck with Eos, and please keep in touch if you have any comments.

    Juan
