Why are effects not default in presets?

Coming from Film and TV here but why would you not want the effect in the preset?  I mean its a look that you want to recall from for future use.  I personally feel if its the look you want it should be as you saved it effects in all.

Most of us live off submasters in the film world and only way to keep records of what we live mixed is presets or start a new sub. Which is alot of loading and unloading. Most of what we do is very basic. But on space shows where the ship is alive you mix faders all 14hrs and then may have to come back to that live mix for a reshoot.

Just curious and hope to a get movie mode soon. Or build a film based console....

  • Couple of things to note and unfortunately to be somewhat argumentative... Not everyone in TV/Film lives on submasters as it can be cumbersome and difficult to busk playback for repeat setups... It also sounds like you're referring to physical faders only when virtual faders and magic sheets, assuming you're working with a capable console, are an easy fix to loading and unloading. Not questioning how you work, but there may be alternatives to explore.

That being said... presets can include effects, but when referenced copy the effect value on the appropriate channels in a submaster/cue and are no longer referenced data. Meaning if the preset is updated it will not update the corresponding submaster/cue.

    Effects In Presets

Effects can be stored in a preset, and those presets can be used to create submasters and cues. However, the effect's data is only copied to the submaster or cue, it is no longer referenced through the preset.

  • Starting in 3.2.0 there is now an option in Setup > User > Record Defaults that decides if recording will by default record effects into presets or not. Depending on this the choice for softkey when recording will be different, either {Plus FX} or {Minus FX}.
