Using Network and DMX 1 & 2 as separate universes on Ion

The address field on the output page is the start address for output on that port.  If you set a port to address 513 then it will output universe 2.  Set it to 1025 and it's universe 3, and so on and so forth, each universe being 512 addresses in length.

I get that concept, but I don't see how to assign ports.  Right now, it thinks that DMX1 and the network are the same, like its mirrored.

DMX Port 1 - let’s say is assigned Universe 1 (Address 1).

In patch, let’s say Channel 101 is patched to control address 5 (Universe 1).

For Channel 1, under {Interface} you can chose which Protocol you want to use.  In this scenario, you want to use DMX only.  The console then knows based on the chosen Interface (DMX) plus the output assignments in Setup (Port 1 Universe 1) to use Port 1 to output levels on Address 5 for that Channel (101).

Ahhhhh, so I'm over thinking this!

Just for clarification: (as sara also said)

in {Setup} under {Output} there are your DMX Ports listed.

since the newer generation of Consoles have 4 Ports, there are 4 Ports Listed. If you have an older Console, ignore the rows with port 3&4 and focus on 1&2.

If nerver thouched, the setting would be like this:

To spell it out:

-Port1 = Universe1

-Port2 = Universe2

-Port3 = Universe3

-Port4 = Universe4

Let's change something.

as shown here the Universes 3 to 6 have been assigned:

Spelled out:

-Port1 = Universe3

-Port2 = Universe4

-Port3 = Universe5

-Port4 = Universe6

Notice the pointy Finger; the console needed to be restarted! Otherwise the changes are not working.

After the restart you can assing any channel you wish for to Universe 3 or 4 [At][3][/] or [At][4][/] in Patch.

I went a little over board with this, but i hope that now everything is as clear as it could be. Sorry.
