ION offline import?

Hi all,

I read through many posts regarding IMPORTING and didn't seem to find the answers I was looking for, so I will try here.

I have a show that was built on an Express.  We now have an ION and I would like to take the Express cues and import them into the ION but leave all the palettes and patch etc.

The issue I am having (offline) is that it will not allow me to select what to import.  I have the Express file as an ASCII file.  And It is certainly importing all the old information (all the cues and effects etc).  But I am not being given the option to choose ADVANCED and select which portions of the old show file I want to import.

So, question one is:  does the offline software behave differently than the console?  I can certainly try to do this at work tomorrow, but would love to know if I am just missing something simple here.

Question two:  is it possible to IMPORT just the patch and palettes from an ION show file after I have already done the full import from the express file?  It will only seem to let me OPEN an ION file but not IMPORT a portion of it.  If I use OPEN, it will only load whatever i want loaded, but it will also remove whatever I don't select.

Hope all this makes sense.  Appreciate any help you all can offer.

Thanks.

  • Darren,

I don't know if this would be the most correct answer, but I would try Importing the whole ASCII file, save that as an ESF, then selectively Import from that.

    Hope that helps, B

Edit- I just reread question 2 and I see you are already thinking that.  You should be able to import specific items.  When you choose Open, all elements are preselected by default and you can deselect some.  When you choose Import, nothing is selected until you click on one or some of the boxes.  If you click Advanced, it will let you choose specific items or ranges.

  • Hi Darren

You can’t import just sections of an ASCII file. The way to get around this is to import the whole file, then save it as a esf, then just Open the sections you want, so Cues and effects. When you Open a section of a file it will remove all the other data which wasn’t selected.

To import your patch and palettes from your Ion file, just go back to Import and helpfully you will see Eos/Ion. If you just select your patch and palettes from your Ion showfile they will be added to the current file. When you Import a section of a file it is merged on top of your current file.

    Hope this helps

Edit. Brent beat me to it, hope we answered your questions.

  • So I think that the ION has an inport feature. Try using this rather then open. When you open parts of a file it opens them into a new show file. When you import it will combine files.

As to the ASCII file, I think that you can open the ASCII in a test editer, like note pad; and combine an Express file into your ION file. It is just a matter of makeing sense of were the data goes. Try it for fun. Just make sure that you back up your files before you try.

  • Hi Nick,

Thanks so much for your advice.  It worked perfectly...exactly what we needed.  The designer and I were not looking forward to retyping all the cues or all parts to the complicated patch.

    Much appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Darren
