How do I program a random CMY color chase for VL1000's without going through white?

I would like to write a random color chase for 14 VL1000's but would like to keep the colors saturated so that they do not go through white. Is there a way to do this?  Thanks.

  • Hi from Germany,
    I can answer you tomorrow at work.

    A short answer:

    Effect (in German: Lauflicht)
    first Step: VL 1000 (Group 1-14)  / Parameter : cyan / 100%
    second Step: VL 1000 (Group 1-14)  / Parameter: magenta / 100%
    ......

  • sorry, this is no random.

    How works Effect 910? Effect is Type: Linear; with Parameter: cyan, magenta, yellow

    I try it tomorrow

  • Eos can work in Hue, Saturation, Brightness (HSB) for colours, so it's actually much easier than you might think.

    Just create an Effect for the "Hue" parameter only, choosing a suitably random curve around Hue, either in Step-Based or Dynamic effects.
    Set the fixtures to a high Saturation, then run the Effect, maybe at a random rate.

    Job done!

    The big bonus of this is that when you work in HSB, changes to Hue don't fade through White, they go 'around' the colour circle.

    - Assuming that the fixture itself is capable of doing the move - don't run this Effect on a scroller!

    thanks! Its works great! & don´t fade through white! cool.
    But it´s the complett Colorspectrum exclusive white?
    I can change the spectrum/Intensity (?) manual with Saturation.
    or with "scale" in Effect.
    What scale must I write for the complett spectrum?
    There are different color with scale 25 & with scale 100.

  • Hue runs from 0-100 around the colour circle, with Red being at both 0 and 100.

    To use particular sections of the colour circle with a Dynamic Effect, adjust the 'base' Hue and scale until it covers the whole of the area of interest.

    To use the entire colour circle, you want a base position of 50% Hue (approximately Cyan) and then adjust Scale until your curve covers the whole range.

    To use only a small section, reduce the Scale and move the base position to the centre of the colour range required.

    If you have a list of particular colours to use, then build a Step-Based effect instead and choose the colours of interest, making sure they are chosen in HSB.

  • You might also try using the absolute effects editor for progressive behavior through specific colors.   Depending on what you are trying to do, this can often be a bit easier than using the step-based editor, which is mostly designed for on/off states, rather than sequential moves.

  • Hi,

    I spend much time at work, to programming a really RANDOM Colorchaser with complett colorspectrum without white.

    The answer is, you need 2 effects. 1 for saturation & 1 for hue.

    Because my english is not the best, but i give you some picture.

    Start the effects:

    *GroupVL Saturation Effect 899* Enter

    *GroupVL Hue Effect 900* Enter

    *GroupVL at Full* Enter

    The Parameter:

    Brightness = 100%

    Saturation = 90 %   (you can change the radius at the colorpicker)

    Hue = 0

    White = 0

    Blue = 10   (you can change the radius at the colorpicker)

    Green = 10   (you can change the radius at the colorpicker)

    Red = 100

    Don´t forget the Attribute "Zufall Rate 50 > 150" at the effects!

    Try some other parameter and curve at the effects. This is the way to a cool random colorchaser.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    If you wont to test the effect without VL (offline):

    Start the effects at the GroupVL, select the GroupVL, and show you the colorpicker.

    There is a animation with a little point.

    Have fun!
