Color Indication on Channel Display

Hi All,

I was wondering, in the Channel Display, if you have a scroller and you attach a scroll list to the channel in Patch, it will show the name of the fram i.e L201 in the channel display underneath the actual channel, can this be done with normal intensity channels? Or is this something that could be looked into?

    Jonathan, when a channel has a scroller assigned to it, the color data field is populated with both the frame number and gel number in use.  + and - indicate a condition other than full frame.  This information is only presented for a scroller parameter.  An intensity channel that happens to be controlling a scroller doesn't indicate the information in this way.

    May I ask why you want it to?  There are a lot of benefits to defining a parameter what it actually is.   Non-intensity parameters are withheld from Grand Master and Inhibitive sub control (although it is possible to store a NP in an inhib, but its a very deliberate action).  In general terms, they don't move unless you actually tell them to move, thereby eliminating unneeded and unwanted parameter changes.  Scrollers defined as scrollers can be marked.  Unneeded moves are so indicated in the PSD and in About.  If you define the scroller as an intensity parameter, none of these things are available.

    So, am interested to know the why part of the request.  :-)

    Im sorry, i think I've confused you slightly.

    What i was wondering is,

    As you've said, if a channel also has a scroller attached, the channel can also show what frame it is in, or indeed what colour if a gel string has been defined.

    What i am asking is, if you have a single dimmer channel, so say if i have '1 thru 6' is my L106 X Wash and '11 thru 16' is my L181 X Wash, can the gel in that fixture be shown on the display.

    My reasoing is purley easy of knowing whats what is a person who has never seen the rig comes in  and whats to know whats what without flipping between plot/paperwork and desk.

    Ok, sorry.  I did misunderstand (I think I misunderstood :-)   Yes, Eos, Ion (and Element) have two different live displays.  One is called the channel summary view.  This view has two basic display modes.  The first is a "condensed" display, which shows just the channel's intensity.  FCB icons are presented below the intensity.  These are color coded to indicate manual, stored or submaster values on the three NP categories.  This display can also be changed to provide a summary of IFCB.  In this instance, you will see the F# and Gel number currently in your scroller.

    Pressing format changes the display to a table view.  This is an extended view that, by default, shows each parameter individually.  This display can also be collapsed on an FCB basis to show of summary of the three NP categories. 

    An additional view in blind is a spreadsheet view.  By default, this view shows just intensity.  It can be expanded to show any NP parameter.  (It is worth noting that while Element has these different views, the formats are fixed)

    You might want to check out a post at the top of the forum that has a document describing the displays.  How the views are changed, what the symbols mean, etc.  Additionally, Ion training videos can be viewed at http://www.etcconnect.com/product.ion.tutorial.aspx.  The precepts are generally the same on Eos.

    Anne,  I think Jay is asking if he can put a label on an intensity channel and have it show up under the channel #.  In his case, he wants to label 1-6 with L106 and 11-16 with L181.

     

    I have to say, if this is possible, this would be great.  I found that option in SmartSoft to be a wonderful help, and would love to see it on the EOS family.
