fade times on a fader?

so I found the fade times you can assign on a fader but they only effect the bump time, not when I manually grab a fader and bring it up or down.  maybe it fades non-intensity parameters but I'm just using it to control dimmers and I want them to fade when I grab them.

is there a way to do this in the software?

thanks!

  • Hi there.  No, not at the moment.  The timing assigned to the bump is always for the action of the sub without using the potentiometer.  We assume when you move the pot, you want manual control only.

    Hope that helps.

  • Thanks for the reply, at least I know I'm not missing something :)

I guess the option to have it one way or the other would be nice.  It's nice to be able to have scenes on a fader or groups of lights and be able to bring things up manually in a repeatable and smooth way on the fly.  Especially with the smaller faders and twitchy movers it can be tough to be really smooth sometimes.

  • Well, that was really the intent of putting timing on the bump button.  Can you tell me why that doesn't work for you?

  • I guess I could hit bump then put the fader to full after it fades in and that would accomplish the same thing.  then to fade out I could hit bump again, bring the fader down, then release bump.  but that's all kinda a pain in the butt and not practical if you're moving several faders at once.

in another room we have a strand console and you can assign fade times to the faders.  so when we're running a show live I can just bring a fader to 100% when a scene starts without worrying about being smooth and it'll smoothly fade up and the fade time is repeatable.  rather than having to hold bump until I want to take the lights out I just leave the fader up.  at the end of the scene I can bring the fader down quickly to 0% and not worry about being smooth, just let the fade time do that for me.

unless the bump could be changed to a toggle in the menu there's no other way to do what I'm talking about with the Ion but that kinda defeats the point of the bump anyway.  to me there needs to be either a separate set of fade in/out time for the fader (normally defaulted to 0 seconds) or an option to apply the bump fade times to the fader as well.  either option would be great and accomplish what I'm looking to do.  maybe that's not what people normally use faders for but I use that all the time on our strand console.

    thanks!

  • A sub time has up/dwell/down time options in the sub screen. If you set the dwell time to 'Hold' you will achieve what you are looking for - 1 push to fade up, and on the next push it fades down.

    Hope this helps

  • You can also just use [Sub][x]{Hold}[Enter].

If it is not used this way all the time, write a macro to do it over a time: [Sub][x][Full][Sneak][5][Enter].
