Is there a way to put an icon on a Custom Direct Select button?

This is currently not possible. At the moment direct selects (of any type) don't accept icons, it's the record target represented by the direct select that can have an icon.

That would be an icon on an empty button, right? I don’t get the point though. You still could use an empty preset with an icon …

I understood the question that the goal is to map a button (i.e. hardkey or softkey) to a custom direct select button and then assign this button an icon.
