ETCpad

We have had the ETCpad for a number of years but haven't used it preferring a third-party Android App. But this went belly up and we thought to try the ETCpad again.

We get the old problem of not connecting while router is not connected to the internet and wondered if, in the interim, the firmware for the pad has been updated. And, if it has been how to we get it and update the pad?

  • Hi Robert,

what version of Eos Software is on your console?

What version of aRFR software is on your ETCpad?
What version of ETCpad software are you running?

Current ETCpad/aRFR Software do not require the router to be connected to the internet.

Network issues like losing connection or sluggishiness can have a plethora of causes - and sometime multiple factors combined.

Do you have a network plan of how data travels between your Eos console and the ETCpad? A hand drawing will work.

Please include the network address information (All 3 pieces of info: IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway IP) for all devices in the lighting network.

The default Geteway IP of the ETCpad is very important to know! If it is not set to the IP address of the router, then the etcpad could be resetting its connection. If there is no router in your network, please set the default Gateway IP of the ETCpad to the IP Address of the ETCpad.

Please also list the manufacturer and model of the switches and routers and wlan access points.

    Thank-you

    ETCpad
Set for Wifi - to Netgear router in booth (No Internet connection).

To re-iterate, we can connect quite nicely and so all above are configured and appear to be working.

    The problems:

1/ The "old" one of not connecting automatically because of the lack of internet connection.

2/ The other one is that I only have to go into the wings and the pad disconnects from console! I'm assuming this is an internal antenna problem with the ETCpad. Note: When in direct line-of-sight on-stage, the Wifi signal is reported as "Excellent".

What I need to help resolve the no-internet problem at least is instructions for locating downloading and installing ETCpad update.

    Thank you

  • Hi Robert,

1.) for instructions on updating your ETCPad - please send an email to your local ETC Dealer or ETC Tech Services Department - they will assist you with getting your ETCpad updated. Here is a list of the contact email addresses from the different ETC Offices:

    https://www.etcconnect.com/Contact/Technical-Support.aspx

2.) I assume the Access Point is in the Booth, and the disconnect is happening when you are too far away from the access point. Access points have limitations, and its possible you need an access point with a stronger antenna to transmit more .- or you could place the access point closer to the stage via a network cable. So materials like curtains or walls depending of what they are made of, inhibit the strength of the Access Point Antenna transmission.

    Good Luck!

  • Just to finish off. ETC support cane through and ETCpad now fully up to date and working well
