clearing the command line?

When there is something on the command line, pressing the Undo key once will clear it.

When the command line is clear, this will obviously take you to the Undo screen, so use with caution!

ok, good to know it is already possible. anyone agreeing that it would be easier with something involving the clear key? but then again, there might be more pressing matters ;-)

Personally, I would prefer a double click of the Clear key since my finger goes there first.  I've generally tapped the clear button five times before I get to the Undo key.   Just my two cents though.

Hmm, only problem with a double-hit of [Clear] is that you need to be able to clear 2 characters when you fat-finger a number, so...

You could always write a 'Clear Commandline' macro.

We have ours as Macro 801 so that it sits on a key on the console.

i agree, that the double clicking of the Clear key wouldn't work, but what about a long press, say for more than the time it takes for two or three characters to be backspaced?

the macro solution is fine for sure, but as with the undo button, it's nowhere near where i intuitively go with my finger...

This is an interesting puzzle to solve...

Double clicking isn't a real viable option as many people may quickly want to clear only part of the command line, which could accidentally clear the whole command line if we implemented the double click option.

The long key press really doesn't work either as right now the clear button does auto repeat when held down. 

Any other suggestions?

a puzzle indeed. i'm aware of the clear key autorepeating. that's why i suggested that maybe after the third repetition one could state, that the user wants the whole command line to be cleared.

if that's not possible, the only other thing i can think of is a key combination. it would have to be a one handed one, possibly close to the clear key. something like "Clear & 0" ? i know, within the regular syntax logics, rather quick and dirty, but to be honest, that's why i like it... ;-)

I like the idea of [Clear] and [<-] to clear the command line.  Perhaps this could also work on Labels as well, a bit like the current second hit of Label.

i like the logic of clear and arrow, i don't like, that i can't reach it with one hand...

Yeah, I confess that the double click isn't the best idea (2:30 AM...), but I'm glad we're discussing it.

what about holding the "Clear" button and pushing "enter".

i'm sure could do that with one hand, and it's just hard enough that i would have to think about it first. 

[Clear]&[Enter] already has a function - it flags manual data as non-manual so that it won't be updated.

How about [Clear] & [.] key?

Sorry to revive a this one. But Similarly on another console which will remain nameless.  Holding Clear for a couple secs Clears the "programmer"  but for our purposes what if clear were held down for 5 secs this clears cmd line?

I feel, holding the clear key for 5 sec, you could have used the UNDO key and put a new command in with that time.

How about [clear] + [-]? I like the clear and left but as someone mentioned it cant be done with one hand this can?

Interesting discussion. My vote:

On any un-terminated command line...

      Single Press of Clear: Backspace one keystroke.

      Multiple single presses of Clear: Multiple backspaces.

      Hold down Clear: after the same length of time that now initiates the auto-repeat function, the full command line should clear. (I find the auto-repeat function far less helpful that a quick full line clear would be.)

Double click CLR for me please.
