Copy To in patch clears dmx address

when in patch and i change something in a -say- scroller configuration and want to copy that to other already patched scrollers, the dmx-address is lost.

so if i decided to do the query-info a bit later and want to copy what i had entered in scroller 1 of the left side in the house to the 5 next scrollers beside it, can i do that using copy to without having to re-address the copy targets after that? or would the best (and obvious) way be to select all of them from the very beginning and do the edit on all of them simultaneously?

cheers from switzerland

  • Felix.... I've read through this several times and I'm not quite sure what you mean.  If you copy a channel to another channel, any DMX addresses on the second channel will be lost.  This is because we don't want to automatically adjust the DMX footprint of the second channel, in the event it would inadvertently unpatch other channels.  So, we put this under your control.

I'm not sure what other things you could be trying to copy.  You can range select to set things like the assigned scroller, text fields, etc, but you can't copy them.

    ??

  • sorry about the confusion. was trying to run a show and press the go-button whenever necessary, so my translation skills might have suffered a bit ;-)

i was trying to copy a channel's properties other than its dmx address to another channel that already has a dmx-adress, the address of the target is cleared. i use Chan X Copy To Chan Y. not because i want another channel with the same address (i'm well aware that that doesn't work), but because i don't succeed to Chan 1 Text1 Thru Text4 Copy To Chan 2.

better? (the show's over, so i could focus on my English ;-) )

  • Ah, I see (and completely understand the problem.... you do much better than I would in that instance)!!

At the moment, you can't copy attributes of channels to other channels.  Only the entire bucket can be copied.    We can look to extend the syntax to individual attributes, with time.

    Thanks,

  • copying only certain information specifically would just be a workaround for me. what i was looking for is just, that the target dmx address is not cleared. since when using copy to i obviously can't be meaning to use the same address again, couldn't the desk just leave the one, that's already there?

  • Yes, if (when) we add the ability to copy only parts of a channels attributes, as long as the device type wasn't being changed we could (can) hold on to the current address...

    Thanks!

  • I've run into this before. I've want to copy a channel across to a group of new channels using {Entire Show} but not wanted to affect the address of the copying channel.
