Submasters Coming On Randomly - Not responding to faders.

I'm using the Ion XE and have run into an issue where, seemingly at random, a set of submasters go to 65% or 18% and stop responding to faders. No commands are entered prior to this happening, no cues are running, and it can only be fixed by turning the board off and on again. Any thoughts as to what's causing this, or how to stop it from happening?

  •  sorry to hear about this.  Can you please give us more details?

    • Is your Ion XE Windows 7 or Windows 10?
    • Are you using it with a fader wing, or perhaps your Ion XE is an XE 20 with built-in faders?

If you have a chance, the next time this happens would you please

    1. Press [Displays + Record] to "drop a pin" in the log files
    2. Exit to the Welcome Screen, then navigate to Settings > Maintenance > Face Panel Test and see if the faders work there
    3. Restart the console and confirm the faders are working again
    4. Save the log files and email them to us at eos @ etcconnect.com along with a link to this post and a quick description of what you're seeing

Please also include the Serial Number of your console and fader wing(s).

    Thanks, -Matt Pumplin

  • Sorry for the slow response. It is a brand new system (we're running our first show currently), so I assume it is Windows 10. It has both 20 built in faders as well as a fader wing.

Luckily (but of course), it hasn't happened since I saw your response, so I've been unable to do those steps. Maybe it will start up once we start our next show.

    Thanks for the advice.

  • I have also had an issue like this. We have our house lights on a fader and randomly when we take that fader down for the show the one next to it will be set to full, which is a full system stage wash with no control over that fader. We can use inhibitors to change the intensity but the values will always go to full. It is a newer XE 20 with an attached fader wing. The house fader and the full stage wash are on the built in faders. The only way to reset it for us is to off and on again too. The work around we are doing right now is putting the house fader way off to the side of the attached wing, alone with nothing around it. So far so good with that.

If this happens again I will follow the steps and hope that it can help resolve this.
