Special FX - Oven Fire

We are doing Sweeney Todd and I want to produce a red-hot flickering "Oven" when the door is opened.

I have produced a pseudo "Bonfire" with a simple RGB LED lamp in the past.

Two CPs were created, one Red and oner Amber. Then, two special FX were made: One was 'Absolute' to swap the CPs. The other FX was 'linear' to affect a flicker.

To use, the ML is put so INT = Full and then FX 1 and 2 applied. It works pretty well but I get the impression its either ALL CP 1 and then CP 2 (IE Red OR amber). I would like to see some mixing of red and amber. That is for them to fade into one another at times. How would I go about this or does anyone have a better way to produce an oven fire with a simple RGB ML? Thank You

  • Not sure of your question Mathilda: We have a single Chauvet CORPAR 80 with Red, Green and Blue LEDS.

Currently I am using two CPs, One Red, the other Amber.

Then I run two FX simultaneously (an Absolute and a Linear) to provide a good effect. But the colors tend to be all Red or all Amber at any one instance.

My question is: Is there a FX 'type' that would allow me to smoothly transition from one CP to the next CP and back?

  • With one fixture, it'll be hard; it'll either be red, or amber.
I'd recommend increasing the time AND dwell to your liking.
Dwell will hold a value - in Red, time is the time it takes to fade, if you're looking for the in-between mixed red/amber, then a longer time would be more ideal than a long dwell, but with gear like you have linked, the dimming can only be so good to mix between like colors.
