Cyc Lights freezing midshow

Hello!

For 2 years now, we’ve been troubleshooting what might be making our 6 cyc lights freeze mid show. We change the universe, had our gateways checked on, changed the cables, gave them their own universe, pulled a whole new batch of cyc lights out, etc. Nothing is working.

We just found a new consistency in that we are using effects with the lights, and they freeze when they are in a chase scene or something simple changing or fading colors. Not every time, but always when an effect is happening.

Would there be any reason you can think of that led cyc lights shouldn’t use effects? I’ll have to write back with the type and brand tomorrow. Maybe age has a factor.

We have an Ion that is updated with current software. Previously, it wasn’t updated, and still has this issue.

Thanks!

  • Update to our issue: Freezing happened today and a few things to add.

    1) Ques on other universe can continue with no issues.

    2) The gateway shows up as 0.0.0.0.0. in all of the IP and Address options. (unlike others that have their proper numbers).

    3) While frozen, one of the lights scroll through numbers with no way to stop it from the instrument screen, and the others still have control on their screen.

    We use a windows 7 ION classic running on the software 3.2.8

    Cyc = Altman Chromacore

    Movers = Martin quantum profile

  • While frozen, one of the lights scroll through numbers with no way to stop it from the instrument screen, and the others still have control on their screen.

    Have you tried removing that one to see if it's just that light malfunctioning and disrupting the DMX for the others? I get that cyc lights kind of need a consistent wash, but I would find a way to isolate that one since that indicates firmware issue, if the fixture's screen is going crazy and is unresponsive.
