Remote Focus Unit Disconnects

For the past month we have been continually losing connectivity and receiving "Remote Disconnected" messages. This is causing frequent interruptions when setting up our lights on stage.

We are using the ETCPad but also experience the same problems on a tablet computer and my cell phone running RFR software.

Sometimes we can go into the pads settings and reselect the Ele2 console. But sometimes have to close down the app completely and reload it then select the console.

It's a small theatre and the Wi-Fi router on the light booth shelf is only about 80 ft from the stage.

The router is NOT connected to the internet and a Wi-Fi analysis app shows it is putting out a strong signal. OSC and Remotes are turn on in the console's settings.

At home, my PC is the DHCP host, but I noticed today in the theatre that the console's settings showed DHCP was off. Would this have something to do with our continually losing connectivity? Or do any other ideas come to mind?

  • Usually it would be the router that is the DHCP server. If there is more than one on a system you will have problems. Does the console have a fixed IP address? This is best so that the app always knows the IP of the console. Having your other devices not fixed IP does not really matter as long as it is set to the same subnet mask. Best case is to have everything with allocated and static IP addresses and keep a record of them.
