The Return of Effects That Never Die

Hello...

3.3.2, Ion XE, just had the return of 'effects that never die' that I haven't seen for a while.

These are really hard to pin down, but in effect you end up in a situation where cue 1 (say) runs an effect, cue 2 stops the effect, cue 3 has no effect running. You see exactly that in blind. But in live you sometimes end up with the effect still running in cue 2 and every subsequent cue even though there is no effect in the cue.

Re-running the cues may or may not fix the issue.

Only solution is to go to the 'bad' cue (cue 2 in the above case),select the lights to another effect, update the cue, select the lights and stop the new effect, update the cue again.

I think this is somehow related to re-ordering cues in blind but have never been able to accurately reproduce it. I saw it a lot in the 2019/2020 (early v3) versions but haven't seen it for a while, But it's definitely either still their lurking, or back in a new form.

  • Oh, interesting. Hadn’t considered that. Not always QLab but yes:

    - the big show where I saw this a lot a few years ago was almost entirely timecode driven (timecode in via a tc gateway).

    - last week’s show where we saw this was a mixture of timecode (MIDI tc via a MIDI gateway) and OSC from QLab.

and thinking about it I’m not sure I’ve ever seen in on entirely manually-run shows

    So that is a possibility….
