How do I put a Channel into an Absolute Effect?

        Color Effects
            D. Color chases using absolute effects
                d. In live, put channels 1 thru 10 in effect 14. 


If I go to Live, how do I put Channels into the Absolute Effect screen that I just left?

                    c. In {Action}[1],  assign [Color Palette][1]

    How?   I've tried everything that I can think of, and I can't get any color palette information into an absolute effect.
    I'm getting my instructions directly from the manual, and it's not working.  Thanks
