Multiple net3 gw

Hello All,

Please let me know if I should move this to the networking forum...this one gets WAY more traffic!

We have an EOS in our space, that otherwise uses only DMX for connections.  We are using one net3 gateway to interface the console to the system.  This gateway is sort of tucked out of the way.  For our next production, we have a dmx device that we need at the production table.  I connected our second net3 gw to the console via cat5 cable, and the device to the gw via dmx cable.  Needless to say, the device wouldn't work.  I looked at both gw's and they had different ip addresses.  We removed the second gw and ran a LONG dmx cable to the first gw and things worked like a charm.

I just want to know if it is possible to have multiple gw's in one system?  Oh, by the way, the DMX device at the production table is a Rosco "Keystroke".

thanks!

Pat

  • Hi Pat,

Just to add a couple of things:

You can absolutely install GCE on the Eos as described, older consoles didn't have it installed as standard, maybe yours is one of those. Consoles ship with GCE as standard these days. It's not a bad idea to keep an eye out for updates to GCE as well as console software as this will hold updates for your gateways also. When you have got your gateway up and running I would suggest updating it from GCE as there have been a few new versions lately.

Liam is correct, we did originally ship Gateways in Net 2 mode. They are now shipping in Net 3 mode.

As far as using your laptop goes, you could still do so. The 4 ethernet ports on the console are actually just connected to the guts of a 4 port switch inside the console, so if you plug your laptop in there too you can utilise the PoE to power the gateway, and still do the config from the laptop.

As Luke says, if you're stuck, a quick call to phone support will explain all. They will probably give you some other useful tips on the particulars of Gateway config at the same time. :-)
