Need help setting up a new WAP for iRFR

I've got a Netgear WPN802 v2  wireless access point.

I have it connected to a 3Comm ethernet switch.  It was finally working for a few days.  But I keep getting a Windows error on the Ion saying "IP Address Conflict with another device on the system" , but the iRFR would still work.

Today it will not connect.

I have the WAP set to get it's DHCP client turned on (so it gets it's info from the Ion)

the DHCP option is turned on, on the Ion.  192.168.0.1  is the IP I'm using on the iPod and set in the Ion.

I'm attaching the setup page from the Netgear WPN802v2

I need help setting this up properly.  I'd like to have it set to a static IP but don't know how to make it work.

  • Sorry, I hit send, too soon...

So basically, if you want a static network (assuming you can give a static address to your switch and your WAP...

It should go someting like this:

(I'm using the 10.101.xxx.xxx scheme that ETC uses...because they have their devices grouped out and I mostly have it memorized...)

    So...to make your network static:

You need to turn off the DHCP address server device that you have on the network, and "turn off" the client services on each DHCP enabled client. (usually it is a choice to toggle between dynamic and static)...

    Ion- 10.101.90.101

    Switch- 10.101.1.1

    WAP- 10.101.2.1

    iPod- 10.101.125.101

PC- if there is one on the system- 10.101.1.101

Any client devices (ie  Net3 Gateways, client laptops, etc) 10.101.50.101 (and up)

I'm operating off the assumption that you understand the Subnet Mask and Gateway addressing, and how to edit these properties in each of your devices.

Does this make sense?  ETC has a handy little chart for static IP addresses that they have created on the 10.101 private network...and if I can find it later, I'll post it.  I may not be remembering the same numbers that they have for each device, but no matter, this will work, as well.  You certainly can use the 192.168 scheme, as well...

Please note that this means whenever you need to plug a new device in, it will need to have a static IP manually assigned to it.

    Does this help at all?

  • Ok, thankyou for your directions!!

I turned of Network Services on the ION.  I kept the IP address within the range of the Netgear WAP that I'm using 192.168.x.x

The ION is set to a static IP of 192.168.90.101

    Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0

    Default Gateway is 192.168.0.232

    -----

    WAP is set to 192.168.0.231

    Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

    ---

iPod WiFi setting is set to a static IP of 192.168.125.101

    ---

Then the ETC app is set for 192.168.90.101

    ---

It work wonderfully now.  Thanks for your tips!
