Marking

We have a VL1k that is up in Cue 1 in postion 1,  in cue 2 it goes out in a 3 count but the rest of the lights are going in a 10.  The light is set to mark for cue 3 which auto-follows cue 2 in 10 counts and we see the light still moving.

It seems to me the fixture should mark once it is at 0 but it seems to be waiting until the entier cue is complete.  Is this expected behavior?  Am i crazy to think it should mark while the rest of the cue is runing?

  • What you could do is put the VL in a part, and put cue 3's focus information in cue 2 and put a delay on all attributes by 3sec. in that part?

  • Try creating a part (part 2 for now) in cue 2, and pull the VL into part 2 (that would have a time of 3).  Then, have the VL in cue 3 mark in cue 2 part 2.  It should begin marking immediately after it goes to zero, and arrive in plenty of time.

When I set it up in offline (v 1.9.1), it looked like the console just used the 10 count of cue 2 to calculate the mark, which obviously overlapped with the start of cue 3.  Setting it up as a separate part, with marking, will save you a lot of time if you change things around later.

  • Recently I have been trying out putting Marks on there own separate part of a cue (e.g Part12)

My question is though, why does intensity show up that it is changing in that part when the only thing recorded in that part is the marking of a single channel.

  • Second question:

Are you only able to mark on a single part per Cue?

For example I've set up a part 12 to mark channel 1

Channel 2 though is far too noisey marking and so I would like to slow down its mark

I tried setting up a part 11 to mark channel 2 and set the time much slower

I realise I can use discrete timing but the whole purpose of me trying out using parts to mark on is to easily see and be able to change the marking timing.

  • Hello Sammy,

In answer to your first question, when a channel is marking in a Mark Cue the intensity attribute will display MK. If the channel had a level in the previous cue then the MK will be displayed in green in line with the channels move to zero. If the channel was at zero in the previous cue then the MK will be displayed in purple as the zero is a tracking value. All other attributes will display the Cue they are marking for e.g Q 8 and always in green. In this case the green indicates a Mark value and does not have anything to do with levels falling.

When you set the mark cue to be a Cue Part the Non-Intencity Parameters marking in that cue are automatically pulled into the Cue Part with the Mark flag assigned and the Intensity attribute is left in the main Part or whichever Part it was in before the new Marking Part was created.. Hope this is all making sense!

So if in blind you move to Part 1 you should see the Marking channel with a Green or Purple MK in the intensity and the NiP's should be displayed in dark purple. Then when you Next, Next to the Marking Part the Intensity should be in grey and the NiP's in green displaying the Q they are marking for. Hope that helps.

In answer to your second question it is currently not possible to have more than one Part as the active Mark in a single Cue. You can set Part 8 and Part 7 to be Marking parts but lights will only Mark in the highest numerical Part i.e Part 8. So your attempt to slow down the second channel will sadly fail as the console will continue to put the marking channel in Part 8 even if you specify Part 7 from the command line.

I agree that it would be useful to use multiple Parts of the same Cue to Mark lights at different speeds and I expect there is a good reason why it's not currently possible. I'm sure a member of the ETC team will explain why in a later post and correct any inaccuracies I may have stated. In this case as I'm sure you did, I would mark the Channel manually by setting it to the new position in the Part desired and avoid discrete timings (great tho they are) when it comes to pre positioning units I like to see it happening on the Cue list rather than have it happen in the Cue itself.

    Hope that helped somewhat.

    All the Best

  • Hi Sabr.  You are correct about the m-part cue marking issue.  This is currently on our list to address.

  • Are you able to use the enable/disable option in macros for marking. I can't seem to get it to work.

    syntax i was using:

    [Enable] [Mark] [Enter]

It still seems to toggle, or at least it does on the OLE.

  • I use Automarking.  If my fadeout is time 6, the Mark action takes an additional 6 counts.  So from the start of the fade I must wait 12 counts before I can run the next cue.  To get around this, I change the Focus, Color and Beam time to 0.  Therefore the Mark action is instant.
