Merging cue lists from different show files

I was wondering if it is possible on an ION to combine cues from different show files?  Of course not using the same cue numbers in each file.  A co worker stated it was a feature on some legacy ETC consoles.  Practical application would be a dance show with several designers where you could tell each designer what cue range to stay in and have them cue their show using the offline editor and email their show file to be combined for the performance.

Thanks in advance.

  • zawistow,

It certainly is possible to combine cues from different show files, but I would recommend having each designer create their own cue list.  Using the merge function, you can import cue lists from multiple show files and not worry about Marking, Blocking, or other tracking difficulties.  Additionally, this will not initially lock you into any particular order.

Once you have the cue lists loaded, you'll have a few options to join them together.

First, and likely the most flexible, it was suggested you can create macros that load a particular cue list in the master fader.  For example, if you are in Cue List 1 and are jumping to List 3, you can create a macro (I'd call it Macro 3) that will automatically load the next cue list.  I find, in this case, that it is easier to learn the macro.  Press [Learn] [3] [Enter].  Then type [Cue] [3] [/] [Enter], and press the [Load] Button on the Ion, or press the button directly above the target fader on the Eos.  Press [Learn] again to end the learn process.   Now, whenever you need to switch cue lists, you can press one button (if you use direct selects with Macros) and have it automatically happen.  Otherwise, it's just the simple command of [Macro] [3] [Enter].  The other advantage is that you can run in whatever order you may need.

The second option is to make the macros more permanent and place them as "Execute" commands in the last cue in each list.  Type [Cue] [x] [/] [x] {Execute} [Cue] (Next cue list) [/] (First cue in next list).

Finally, you can create links between cues, in a similar way to the second option.  [Cue] [x] [/] [x] {Link} [Cue] (Next cue list) [/] (First cue in next list).

These are all options, and it really depends on the flexibility you want or need.   Let me know if you have more questions!

  • Hi there.  If you go to the option "merge" under "file".  You'll want to select the file you want to bring data in from.   Then click "advanced".  This allows you to select just specific record targets and either bring in them under their existing ID or bring them in with new numbers.  You'll need to be mindful of a couple of things.

Right now, the desk is not bringing in tracked data .... so you'll need to block the first cue in your range before you do the import.  This is being changed in 2.0, but just so you are aware of it now.

And then, if you are bringing cues into the middle of an existing list, you probably need to place a block on the cue that is after the last one you are importing.

    Hope that helps.
