Problem Patching Seachanger units on the ion Console

I'm currently having some difficulty getting my seachangers to work.  I have patched them into an available universe, and selected the type, however I can't get them to change colors when I go back to blind.

What is the proper way to patch them so I can use the color change functionality of them?

  • How are you trying to set the color in blind?  In 1.9.5 we made it so that the encoders are disabled in blind until you press an encoder page key.  Can that be what you are seeing?

  • I patch my channel to address 7/next.  Universe 7 is unoccupied.  I then change the type to Seachanger and press enter.  When I go to live and bring up the value of the light, nothing happens.  I know I am doing something wrong, but can't seem to figure it out on my own.  First time dealing with universes.

    Thanks

  • How are your Seachangers plugged into the Ion?

If you have a node that converts ethernet (probably, but not necessarily, Artnet) to DMX, check the universe that the node is talking to.

If your Seachangers are plugged into the same DMX chain as the dimmers, then they are on the same universe.

If you can, please provide more detailed information about the wiring of your system.

It's important to remember that the desk (Ion in your case) does not control what universe a device is on. Universes are selected like DMX channels: a device is pre-set to 'listen' to a universe (7, for example) and then if it's a node will output 512 channels from that universe.

  • Answers to all the above questions will certainly help us to help you, but I have one more very basic question. When you have patched your Seachanger are you also patching an address to part 2 of the channel which drives the dimmer? Assuming your seachanger is attached to a Source 4 fixture you will probably have an external dimmer in the equation as well?? Is the problem that you get no light out of the fixture, or that you have no colour control? I'm a little unclear.
