Why "Proportional Fader" as default for a Cuelist ?

Hi,

 

I have wondered recently why a fader is set as "proportional" as the default state for a cuelist. And what is the effect actually ? Doesn't it make more sense to have it set as "Intensity Master" as a default ? Normally you want to control the intensities with the faders you are putting a cuelist on, no ?

 

Just wondering - maybe I haven't realized the possibilites of the "proportional" setting.

  • Good question.  When I look at showfiles, about 1/2 of the time the faders are set as proportional and the other 1/2 as I-Masters.  How these are set depends a lot on the types of shows you do and what you are used to.  I don't think there is a clear "winner" here in terms of what people want to do.  The initial behavior of the faders was proportional.  I-Master options were added in later.  So, by default the faders work the way they have since the initial release.

    Interesting...I have to be honest...my assumption is that when the fader is set as "proportional" it is because the fader isn't used at all. Well...at least that is how I work. But you are right, it depends on the type of show of course.

     

    And wow, it only took me about three weeks to respond to your post ;)
