Virtual faders

Any reason you don't use a fader wing ?.

The show has close to 200 lists. A fader wing will not fix our issues. Plus in our booth space is at a high premium.

Have you tried recording a snapshot when you have the faders assigned as you like?  Then you can recall the snapshot to get things back where they belong.

Never mind- I tried this offline and it seems to not work.

Unfortunately snapshots do not remember virtual fader information. The desk assigns a virtual fader number to a list when it is loaded onto a physical fader. This is so that you can load the same list onto multiple faders. When you unload, or double release, the list from the physical fader and then reload it to a physical fader the desk assigns the next sequential virtual fader. The only place, that I know of, to view this information is in the Cue List Blind (double press [cue]. Those fields are not editable by the user. And they do not print in the PDF. As I found out today.

I'm having a mental block on the relationship between cuelist, virtual fader and what the Fader Config window calls "playback".

It seems that assigning a "playback" number to a fader is an extra step that makes the Fader Config window more confusing- you would expect the number in the "Mapped to" tile below the fader would refer to the cuelist number (it refers to the submaster number when the fader is defined as a submaster), but the playback number may or may not match the cuelist number.  Is there a reason that "playback" can't just mean "cuelist" in Fader Config?

It would be useful to be able to directly map specific cue lists to faders in Show Setup>Fader Configuration, much as you are currently able to map submasters.

just on a side note and maybe i'm missing something, but why do you use a macro to fire a cue and not execute? it might not have anything to do with your problem, just being curious...

The macro structure was used to emulate releasing functions of other consoles. Also in this show we have lots of lists that need to run at the same time over top of each other. Most of this happens automatically because the timing is way too tight for an operator to take manually. 

that's why i thought you could add execute commands to your cues, e.g. the cues in the "master" cue list. Cue 5 {Execute} Cue 2/7 Enter or something like that adds a command that fires cue 7 of cuelist 2 whenever your fire cue 5 of cuelist 1...

basically i was just curious if there was an advantage of macros over the execute command...

As far as I know excite is only a simultaneous control. If I excite cue 7/1 from cue 1/1 as soon as I press GO on 1/1 then 7/1 will run as well. What we want to do is get list 1/ to run with all it's timing. And at some point list 7 needs to take control of the units in list 1. Run to completion. And then release control back to list 1.
