Media Server

Hi Anne,

First of all let me say that I find the new Media Server fabulous. I have been playing with it since the Beta version. I know I have barely touched the possibilities. That said I have one request and one question. The request is about the default pixel size on Effects layers. It currently defaults to 12 x 12. I was wondering if you could add either the ability to assign a size for the Pixel Map in the pixel maps setup, or have it default to the size of that map. The first would probably be better but the second would also work. It just saves time when programming.

I am using the server to primarily control Icove MX units. My problem is that as with most RGB fixtures full RGB is not white. We I have found settings that get much closer to white(instead of the pink the 100% RGB produces pink. Is there a way to tell the media server when it sees white in the media to use my values instead of full RGB? I know there probably isn't but I am hopeful.

Once again thanks for a wonderful program update.

  • There are 'global' colour adjustment attributes in the Virtual Server channel.

You can tweak those until 'white' is actually white on your fixtures and record those values into your cuelist as appropriate.

  • Hey there.  First we agree with the auto-sizing of the image based on the size of the grid.  We've avoided that so far because at this point, we don't have any user settable device parameters (well, that come to mind anyway) which are automatically set to something other than a default value based on some other condition.  But it would make the feature more sensible in many ways.  On the list.

You do know that you can assign color palettes to your layer channels?  Follows all of the standard recording rules (you can do this even with procedural effects, which have two color parameter sets).  When you record your palette, just be mindful of using record only.  This should make it possible for you to quickly set to the "white" condition that you want.

    Does that help??

    Thanks for the positive comments!

  • Thanks Anne. I am playing with your suggestions. Let you know how it works soon. I do have a new question. I need to make a three color effect. I came up with using three seperate Perlin noise effects layers. I assigned a different color to each effect layer and as I was building it each color showed thru the black areas of the other layer. It looked just as I hoped it would. I then recorded it in a cue. Upon playing it back the layers all synced losing the three color effect. My solution was to delay the 2nd and 3rd layers in the cue which worked but not quite as well as the original. Is there a way of keeping that timing offset when you record. I hope I am just missing a step. Once again thanks for a great toy.
