ML Profiles, and how to fix them? Like fixtures with inverted dimmers?

Yes -- this is documented on page 85 and onwards of the Eos 1.7 Operations Manual.  This gives much of the basic information for how to adjust and modify fixture personalities.  I've been working on a guide in Tech Services, but much of that information is in the manual as well.

You can get to the editor by going to Patch and then pressing S6, or {Fixtures}.  The list then displayed shows you all the fixtures patched in the show.  Select the profile you want to edit and press Copy.  You cannot edit console library personalities, but you may certainly copy them and modify those.  Once you have modified the profile, you must then repatch the fixture(s) as the copy of the personality.

Now, the fixture's control parameters can be accessed through About -- this is where those functions will reside.  If the parameter has been greyed out in the fixture editor, meaning that you cannot modify it, that usually indicates that there is a Lamp Control associated with it, and you would need to delete those first.

Again, these are all particulars for the situation you're dealing with.  I can examine on Monday what's going on with the personality, but the manual should give you the information you need to modify the personality to your needs.

I've been through that section of the manual, I'm comfortable with most of the basics, and am with you until you start mentioning the control parameters, which I haven't yet gotten into (beyond actually using them, anyway). I'll have a look at those and see if I can figure out how to modify them, if I can at all, once I'm back at the console.

I have just downloaded the 1.9.8 beta offline software - woot! - and noticed that one of the fixtures I'd actually been asking about is now in there: the Blizzard Lighting Flurry Wash 13ch, which is actually a carbon version of the Chauvet MinWash 13ch profile, from what I can tell. The Eos' profile for the Flurry has an error, however - the channels for pan fine and tilt coarse are swapped. [I think the Chauvet has the same error, but am not 100% on that.] The electronic copy of the manual I've seen is consistent with the console's default personality - but the hardcopy that came with the light, and the behaviour of the fixture IRL puts the order as (ch1-4: Pan, Pan Fine, Tilt, Tilt Fine). I've mentioned this in an email to Anne already, so by now this may be just an FYI.

I've noticed a few other changes (from 1.9.6 to 1.9.8b) with the profile* as well (like reordering minimum and maximum values in the intensity range, and its home value), which I'm eager to test out on the console. I can also confirm that the Flurry has an inverted dimmer function, in that its brightest setting (8) (also its home value!?) is at a lower DMX value than its dimmest (134), so the default profile might have the fixture come up at Intensity Full, RGB Full as soon as it is patched, and rolling it's intensity from 0 to "full" may just dim it down, not make it brighter... I'll be able to confirm that, or not, as soon as I've got the new personality installed (tomorrow, maybe? Er, later today, now, actually).

Update:

The intensity for the fixture still doesn't work for me - either in the default profile, or the one I ended up using after modification attempts... So as a workaround, I've been setting the home values of these fixtures at full brightness and intensity, and colour values at zero. The downside of this is I then need to use one of the subs as a GM, inhibiting the colour values of these fixtures, and the intensities of everything else. :(

According to the MiniWash Manual from Chauvet found online here:

Which is what is found in the the standard profile in the Eos v1.9.6 library for Chauvet Miniwash 13CH.

You attached a (blurry) copy of a DMX Chart. Was this for the MiniWash or the Flurry?

For the Blizzard Flurry, I found the following manual:

My hardcopy's different - yes. The unit now ships with the Revision B manual. In your link, the quick reference on page 5 is correct, but you'll see the detailed DMX chart on page 14 still has a persistent error from the previous version. I've verified this is in error with the actual fixture - the proper sequence is Pan, Pan Fine, Tilt, Tilt Fine - just as with the Chauvet.

The Chauvet and the Blizzard, from what I can tell, use the same base, the same logic, the same profile - or ought to, when the profile's fixed. The original Blizzard downloadable manual has them incorrectly placed.

Edit: Oops - forgot to mention - I have the Blizzard fixture on-hand, but I'd been using the 1.9.6's Chauvet profile, modified. Since the 1.9.8 beta's release I've been using its Blizzard profile, modified in the same way, which is better, but still not 100%.

The standard profile for Chauvet has Pan, Pane Fine, Tilt, Tilt Fine.

So then the Standarf profile in the Ion is correct.

Yes, originally I'd modified the Chauvet's profile to match the manual's version of the Blizzard (with the error included). So it was my fault the 1.9.6 Chauvet profile was wrong for those channels - but the intensity settings for that fixture are still out of whack, from what I've seen.

You're absolutely right -- the intensity is acting strange indeed.  The profile is correct, but it appears that it's related to handling the inverted dimmer parameter and this fixture.  We're currently looking into the cause and the fix.  Stay tuned!

I am new to smartfade ml.  I am attempting to build personalities for some Blizzard fixtures.  I was reading this thread and I thought I picked up one the fact that Chauvet and Blizzard fixtures have the same profiles.  If this is true, and since the smartfade has many of the Chauvet fixtures installed, I wonder how I can determine what Chauvet fixture's Blizzard counterpart would be.

Regarding your question, we don't have a way to compare or know if one manufacturer's fixture has the same mapping as another's. However, you can take a look at the listing of personalities in the library. I do see quite a few Blizzard fixtures in our latest library, though, available here. Perhaps your fixtures are in there directly.

Please check page 8 of your user manual to see how to load personalities into the console library from the SD Card.

Load Personalities from Card
The console has a personality library with 500 of the most common fixtures. In addition to this there are 100 personality slots that you can fill by loading personalities from the updated personality library at etcconnect.com. Personalities are loaded from the SD card.
The file should be called PERSLIB.BIN. A personality loaded in this way will stay in memory until you make a deep clear or the battery runs out.
This is done from the Patch menu.
Menu>Patch>Patch Devices>[Load Personalities]
Select the slot with wheel 2. Confirm slot by pressing ENTER.
Select manufacturer with wheel 1 (or 2). Select personality with wheel 3. Confirm
personality by pressing ENTER.

To patch to one of these LOADED personalities, use the instructions in the user manual starting on page 23. Be aware that your loaded personalities appear in their own section of the library, just after USER PERSONALITIES and just before the start of the built-in library. To see the LOADED library section, you need to turn the wheel pretty slowly, otherwise it's quite easy to spin right past it.
