RFR annoyances

I'm using my RFR in channel check mode and I noticed the following issues, not sure if anyone has a work around for me:

-GM Exempt channels come to full, but don't go back out when I hit clear or move on to the next channel.

-Every channel seems to be fading up in a 1 sec fade, then back down in a 1 sec fade.  I have a manual fade time of 1 sec set for up, down, color, focus, but only on my EOS console (which is running as backup) the RPU (master) and ION (client) are both still set to 0 for all.

-I seem to have to replace the rechargeable batteries in my RFR every couple of months, am I doing something wrong?  I'm using NiMH of the largest capacity I can find.  The last set were even installed by ETC when we sent our RFR in for some other issues, but they still don't last for more than a couple of months.

  • Howdy Bryan,

I currently don't have a RFR in my hand to check your first two points.

What is your display timeout time sent to? The display trains alot of battery

power, and I generally leave it at 10 or 30 seconds, which will keep the batteries

good for longer. Having a time out of a minute find ich way too long.

What version of Handheld are you using? v2.0.7 Has functions built in to help

    lengthen the battery live.

  • I'm using an RFR, V2.0.7, and generally use it in Playback.

The 1.7 EOS manual says "The Eos RFR defaults to opening in Live mode." but ours doesn't, it opens in Channel Check so I always have to change mode.. Is it possible to change the default mode on boot-up?

How often do you charge your RFR.  NiMH batteries suffer from a "memory" where the battery "remembers" the value that you plug it in for charging as the dead state over time.

To improve battery life only charge the RFR when the battery is completely dead.  (I know this can be a problem when you need the RFR and the batteries are dead- one thing I do on occassion is to leave it on through a show or overnight so I can plug it in and guarentee charge the next time I need it for longer than 15 minutes).

Which console is your RFR connected to? If it's direct USB to anything except the RPU it will take on those settings.  Off the top of my head I can't remember configuring the device connected to ETCNet but I believe it should connect to the Master.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Oovis-

This mode was changed in a later version - a lot of people complained that the RFR defaulted to a potentially show-destructive mode, so the Channel Check mode was created and made the default. There is no way to change the boot-up mode at this point-

Hope it's all going well on the show-
