ION monitor setup woes

The first thing I would check is the cable connecting the Ion to the second monitor.  Are the connectors attached securely and then try swapping the cable.  Also,  is your console the older style with the DVI splitter or does it have 2 DVI connectors on the back of the console?  If it has the DVI splitter check to make sure those connectors are secured tightly and that you have not bent a pin on the big connector that goes into the console.  I noticed in your specs that you are setting the monitor at 70hz.  Most US monitors run at 60hz.  That probably will not solve this problem, just something I noticed.

As previously mentioned it is a good idea to say the exact version number of the software you are running as what is the latest today may not be the latest tomorrow.

With both monitors attached, try holding Control + Alt and F12 (or, if you have the mini keyboard, Control + Alt + Function F2), and you should see a window with some options. Make sure "Extended Desktop" is selected.

Have you tried the DVI monitor in the other DVI socket?

One of the two DVI sockets is 'shared' with the VGA and thus cannot run at the same time as the VGA.

You should also be using a 32-bit colour option if possible, it looks a lot nicer.

I've seen that Ion won't let a VGA monitor be Primary, and if you try to select a VGA monitor as primary, it disables that monitor when you close the external monitor arrangement window.  Maybe that's contributing to your problem?

I'd set your DVI monitor to primary, or get another DVI monitor.

I use a VGA and a DVI.  They are both ELO as specified by ETC.

 this solution solved the problem instantly - it was driving me crazy, I had done multiple software reisnstalls etc. Thanks luke

That's done it. I don't know how the settings got jumbled around in the first place. Most likely an inquisitive student. Thanks all.
