aRFR oddities

1st test run on a purchased version

HTC Incredible (1st gen.) Andoid OS 2.2

Ion with 1.9.6

6 Martin MAC700 Profiles (set as Ch's 301-306)

- The intial screen on this version is not the same as what's shown in on-line literature for the aRFR, namely no Group button and a somewhat different layout.  Possibly the website is showing the Apple version with Android a different, and/or Congo version ?.

The screen intitally boots to the same screen as shown here http://www.etcconnect.com/Community/wikis/products/arfr-product-page.aspx

Then immediatley swaps to a layout for the upper buttons of:
All - nothing - Last
Full - nothing - Next
So no group which would be useful

- I wished the screen would rotate with the phone, to allow more selections visible on the Encoder page and/or a larger keypad ?.

- Wishing the Encoder page had up Up / Down arrows above the scale basr that allowed incremental changes - I.E. finer resolution. Right now pan/tilt is paticularly difficult

- The Encoder page does not mirror the actual attributes available on the MAC700's, namely there's no option to select the static gobo wheel.

- Any way to include a swap screen button on the Pan/Tilt ?. So I don't have to rotate the phone 180 degrees when facing DS and back to access other screens

- This app really, really needs some form of Update and/or record option. I can move fixtures but then what ?. Right now I'm using the RRFU to record moved units as a dummy cue then transfering data to assorted palettes fromt hose cues, then dumping the cues.

- Also needs a Go to Cue Out option

- Some odd behavior between the initial RFR screen and other screens. Accessing intensities for ML's "Ch, 301, thru, 306, Full, Enter". Move to the Pan/Tilt page and move the fixtures. Upon pressing on the screen, the intensities go to zero.

A useful tool once I figured out some work-arounds.

And a thanks to Han today for a quick tech support on the phone.

  • Hi Steve,

Is it possibly the App. is launching in Channel Check Mode? Press M to repaint the screen to show: Park, Live, Playback, Chan Check, Patch.

While holding M, touch the tile you want to go to, such as, Playback, for the GO TO & Out buttons.

That's the way it is for my ETC RFR & iRFR App.

    Enjoy!

  • Yup, Ch Ck mode

OK, now I'll go and look at the rest

    EDIT: From Todd

"I'm sure others will chime in, but it helps to think of the aRFR app as a RFR+ extra, not a RFR replacement. What I mean is that the aRFR emulates the RFR (and uses the RFR interface) for fixture selection, recording, etc., but adds the ability to control encoders and run cues in a prettier interface. If you haven't used the "old school" RFR before, then that part of the app might be confusing."

Actually I've used the RFFU for 2 years now and the one thing I was always frustrated with was that the unit had 2 scroll wheels, yet no ability to move a mover.  This became the primary reason to move to the aRFR, was the ability to adjust the focus of the ML's while standing on deck and seeing the beam, as opposed to the less then accurate attempts from 120 ft at the console.

Much of the issues was Ch Ck mode and in truth I wasn't seeing in the documentation (for the aRFR) the ability/method to swap to Live, Park, Playback, etc.... mostly as on the the RRFU it's a softkey and I assumed the M key was Macro.  But with the add'l screens, the functionality just took a huge leap.

Still, while it does have the Record and Update functions, it's still only updating a cue.  And my thought was since the aRFR has ML control, would it make sense to allow a defined Update for a Focus Palette ?, which since it moves the movers, presumably it's Focus/Color/Beam you might want to update.

Note as well that I wasn't following any of the threads about all this, so will go back and do some reading.

And it's a great tool and now understand the buzz.

    Thanks

    SB

  • Hi Steve,

I wasn't sure if you had been using the RFR - once I realized that the aRFR's RFR mode is exactly like the real RFR (including the location and functions of the keys), then things began to fall into place for me.
