Visualisers operate in blind mode

Hi,

i'd like to see a feature where the console will continue to output to a visualiser when it is in blind mode. So when we select channels and operate them in blind we can see the movement on an independant visualiser.

This would need to work so that the visualiser receives what is being seen for real when in live mode (listening to the same information being streamed to the dimmers and rig) and when you go to blind mode it will send the visualiser a new stream of information which will be controlled from blind mode, and obviously not go to the real rig! But of course the live stream running underneath blind mode which keeps the real rig working will need to run seperately too.

The result of this should hopefully mean that we can use blind mode more effectively with moving lights. And without putting commercial pressure on you, I have to point out that the Strand Light pallet does do this, so your missing a trick!

Thanks,

James

  • James, this is on our list.  Regarding commercial pressure - we are actually not driven by what another manufacturer does - but by the requests of our users.  :-)  And this has been requested by our user base.

    Thanks much!

  • I think this would be a great feature too - I know sACN has an in-built flag to support this functionality although I don't know if visualisers respect it yet.

As well as showing the contents of a blind cue to the visualiser, I also think it'd be great to have the B-fader (ie the pending cue) come up in the visualiser, too.

    Cheers, Blake.

Well, if you wanna speak of missing tricks, didn't Emphasis purport to do this ten or more years ago?  And don't two (three?) other manufacturers' consoles currently do it as well/also/too?

Since ETC doesn't offer a visualizer (that I know of), which of the many (though only about four truly viable ones) should it support?  My vote would be for the only one that's free, but since that one is tied to another manufacturer's console, probably not going to happen. Perhaps the ETC software team could whip up a usable, realistic, fully-featured visualizer that works with any offline program, has every moving light ever released including the ones advertised last week that aren't even in production yet, (and make it available at no cost).  Shouldn't take more than five years or so.

It's very cool that sACN might allow the feature to be both console and visualizer agnostic.  I'm glad someone thought of that.

Let's ALL demand that it be implemented ASAP!

"But mooommmmm, everyone else is doing it" never convinced anyone of anything.

  • This feature request just came up the other day. Yes I too would like to see it implemented. I am a long time Wysiwyg user and I would love ETC and Cast be in a conversation on how to best work together.

In our conversation we also discussed how strange it was that we cannot have very useful functionality that used to work more than 8 years ago (on a Strand, I admit), on 2019 hard- and software. This hardware doesn't exist anymore, so I cannot use the feature anymore.

I cannot wait to see this feature implemented.
